I just learned of Professor Scalise's death. He was a remarkable professor, able, and engaged. He could also be a tough (but fair) grader, and there were going to be no freebies from him. I had him for Business Law as a USF junior. The class was packed, naturally, but he made it feel like there were just a few of us, rather than the 200+ in one of the McLaren classrooms. But this is not one of those instances where I never got around to thanking him. I actually did, and sent him a note from Italy, where I had been stationed as a Navy JAG officer. I received a nice note back.

Of my four years at USF (1979-1983) there are only two professors that I remember the name of. Yours was one of them.
You were intelligent and genuine.
May perpetual light shine upon you.

Everything that has been said here is so true. Dave was a wonderful person and an absolute delight to work with. I was his librarian at USF for the 10 years that I have been here, and I thought he was just terrific. I send my deepest sympathy to all who loved Dave. I miss him!

Wendy and Family, We were so sad to hear about Dave. (Cuz) We are so glad that we were able to make it out last fall and share in Sierra's day. I know Dave's heart was filled with joy being able to walk Sierra into her new journey in life!
Even on the visits back to Iowa he wanted to make sure our boys were challenging themselves with school, even sending back math workbooks and a big jar of pickles for Brian. He could make you laugh, and make you stop and think, no matter if you were 12 or 50! He was a gem, and we will miss him terribly! Hugs and love to all! Bill and Joann

Dave,
We have only been together a couple of times in a long friendship between our wives but that was all it took to realize what a wonderful person you are. May you rest in peace.

Dave,
You were the best professor I had up on the Hilltop. Still remember sitting in your classes up on Lone Mountain and fighting the urge to stair out over the view of the bay. You were the one who exposed me to the law. RIP my friend.

Dave brought love and laughter to Wendy and her family. He will be missed on this sphere but looking out for his family for eternity. Our hope is for peace for his family and with time, being able to embrace all of the wonderful memories they shared.
With love and sympathy, the Mike Leonard Family
