DORIS FARRELL Obituary

Doris L. Farrell Passed away March 21, 2012 at her home in Sacramento, CA at the age of 91. Sweet, gentle and kind are the words that best describe her. She was born May 8, 1920 to Frederick and Henrietta Gagnier in Detroit, MI. She grew up in Grosse Pointe, MI with her sister Eunice, and graduated from the Detroit Business Institute. As a young woman she was very active. She enjoyed fencing, ice skating, canoeing, swimming and tennis, and was a member of the Detroit Hikers Club and the Detroit Equestrians. She also enjoyed dancing to the music of the big bands that were so popular then. In 1948, she married her husband Robert Farrell, and for the next 28 years the two shared many happy times. They lived in New York during the first years of their married life, where their two children, Robert Farrell, Jr. and Leslie Ann Farrell, were born. In later years, the family lived in Connecticut and then Indiana. While her children were young, she was both a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a Brownie Leader. Following her husband's death in 1976, she moved to California, first living in Novato, where she was employed by Macy's for 24 years. After retiring from Macy's in 2006, she moved to Sacramento, where she lived with her daughter Leslie. Her most cherished moments were the times that she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, sister, niece and nephews. Doris loved attending Mass at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. She also enjoyed the theater, travel and playing cards with her friends. She is survived by her two children: Leslie Farrell, Sacramento, CA; Robert Farrell (spouse Jeanine), Novato, CA; her three grandchildren, Danielle, Ryan and Julian Farrell; her sister Eunice Sulentich and her niece and nephew Laura Frederickson and Joseph Sulentich. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 27th at 10:00AM at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, 1017 11th Street, Sacramento, CA. There will be no visitation. W. F. Gormley & Sons is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Doris Farrell's name to a charity of the donor's choice.

Doris...we were so happy that you played games with us and I remember the last time when you won...you were so excited! We were looking forward to water aerobics and the hot tub this summer. We think of you every Wednesday night and know you're playing games up there. We miss you.

Aunt Doris, I pray you have found peace and that you are watching over us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends . You are a lovely person that will be greatly missed. Even though we lived so far away you always remembered to send me thoughtful gifts & cards. My girls were always sent wonderful gifts, even when you had never met them. I'm so glad we were able to visit back when I was a little girl. I will always remember what a wonderful time we all had. I'm sorry we couldn't be there to celebrate your life.

May you be shining down on us from heaven.

I love you so much CC, I will always cherish the memories I spent with you. Such a kind and gentle person with such an incredibly strong soul. You always said on your 100th birthday we would have a huge birthday party and a giant cake. But let's celebrate early CC, for you lived such a long happy life. I can't believe how fast time has passed. I look back on my childhood and treasure the hundreds of polaroid pictures that me and you took together. You were by far the best babysitter, watching endless movies while eating jello animals, english muffins, goldfish, and dreyers vanilla ice cream in your lazy-boy chair. I am so happy that I got to grow up with you, and you will always be a part of my heart. As sad as I am that you are not here anymore I am excited for you to finally be reunited with your husband, my grandfather, Robert Farrell. It must be lovely to be with your beloved at last. I am so upset that I can not make it back to your service because of schoolwork but just know that I am always with you in spirit CC. I will miss you so much. Rest in Peace.
I love you so much,
Danielle
