JOHN OWENS Obituary

John R. Owens Passed from this world on January 29, 2010. A longtime resident of the Lucas Valley area of San Rafael, CA, John lived his final years in the Rossmoor community of Walnut Creek, CA. He was born in Pittsburg, PA, grew up in North Canton, OH, and lived in Cleveland, OH and St. Louis, MO, before coming to California in 1969. John spent his career in inside sales for Dow Chemical, retiring in 1986. In retirement, he and his wife Mary traveled and volunteered at East Brother Light Station and Point Bonita Lighthouse, expressing their love of American lighthouses. John is survived by his wife, Mary; his children James Owens and Cindy Huffstetter; their spouses Leticia Owens and Steve Huffstetter; his step-granddaughter Jaclyn; and his brother Bill Owens and his family. Final arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society of Northern California. A memorial service will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2100 Tice Valley Blvd, Walnut Creek, CA on February 27, 2010, at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to East Brother Light Station at 117 Park Place, Point Richmond, CA 94801. John's favorite volunteer activity, or the American Cancer Society.
