John Whedon Obituary

John F. Whedon Jr. Of Belvedere and Tiburon, died on October 5, 2009, at the age of 84 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He was the beloved husband of Mildie for 59 years; loving father of Gale (Dave) Dewar of Chicago, Pat (Beau) James of Mountain View, and Jo (Mark) Volgamore of Pleasant Hill, and proud grandfather of Danny Ferrone, Christopher and Andrew James, Garrett and Kyle Paquin. Born January 31, 1925, in San Francisco, CA, his family later moved to Glencoe, IL, where he graduated from New Trier High School. He earned an Electrical Engineering degree from Northwestern University and served in the U.S. Navy. His highly successful career path started as salesman at Ansco Film Corp. in Chicago. He moved to NYC and became an advertising salesman at Newsweek. From there, John was a salesman at Butler Manufacturing Co. in Kansas City, MO and Houston, TX. John returned to Newsweek in 1958, and went on to become VP of Advertising. In 1965, John became VP of Airport Advertising for Transportation Displays, Inc. In 1972, John founded Mailing Management, Inc., and relocated his family to Marin County. There he discovered his true passion for the outdoors, spending any free time hiking and channeling his keen eye for photography on the world around him. After 23 years, he sold MMI and in his retirement enjoyed family gatherings with friends in his home, photography, and traveling extensively. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Tiburon, CA, on Sunday, November 8th at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate charitable donations to the Fight Forever Foundation (www.fightforever.org) founded by John's grandson, Danny Ferrone to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, or a charity of your choice.
