Lawrence Goldberg was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1923. He earned a B.A. Degree magna cum laude from New York University, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Larry met the love of his life while attending law school in Cambridge in 1949. He and Doris were married in 1952 and moved to California.
During World War II, Larry served in the combat engineers the 95th Infantry Division in France and Germany. He was awarded a Bonze Star for heroic achievement in aiding and evacuating wounded soldiers in combat in the Division's assault crossing of the Moselle River in Uckange, France in 1944
Larry was the founder and managing partner for 30 years of Goldberg, Stinnett and MacDonald (later known as Goldberg, Stinnett, Meyers and Davis), a leading bankruptcy and business reorganization firm in San Francisco. He was a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and lectured frequently to lawyers on bankruptcy and business reorganization. Larry was Chairman of the Bankruptcy Consulting Group for the California Board of Legal Specialization. He was also a generous mentor to colleagues in his firm.
Larry served as a trustee of the Kentfield School District, and was president of the Family Service Agency of Marin. He was president of Jewish Family and Children's Services and served as chairman of the Jewish Community Relations Council of San Francisco.
Larry was an avid reader, and in retirement he loved taking daily walks in the wooded hills of Marin. He loved sports and the 49ers.
He is survived by his children Carolyn Karr, Beth Goldberg (and Glenn Faden), Robert (and Frances Goldberg) and by his grandchildren Miles Martin, Georgia and Charlotte Goldberg. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Doris Goldberg, by his sister Ruth Haskell, and his brothers, Arthur Goldberg and Samuel Goldberg.
