Patrick Mullin Obituary

Patrick was born in Reno, Nevada on July 26, 1950 and grew up in the Bay Area. He attended University of San Francisco, where he made lifelong friends at Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and earned the name Papa Pat for organizing outings for local children as a way for his pledge class to give back to the community. In his freshman year at USF Patrick met the love of his life Robin, a relationship that bloomed into 49 years of marriage and two children. He often spoke of how lucky he was to have found such a wonderful partner and family. After graduating law school at UC Law San Francisco (UC Hastings) Patrick spent his professional career as a trial attorney. He was passionate about the law and was widely respected for his talent in the courtroom. He was recognized with numerous awards throughout his career and was a proud member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Patrick retired as a partner at Jackson Lewis and enjoyed mentoring proteges at the firm. When asked about his biggest accomplishments, Patrick never hesitated to speak of his love for his family and the life he built with Robin and their children Michele and Greg. Patrick was thrilled when Greg married Jessica and absolutely ecstatic to welcome his granddaughter Camille into the world this past year and become her Papa Pat.Patrick had a wide variety of interests, and he nurtured unique hobbies to share with each of his children. He and Michele shared a love of architecture, art and design and music, and they went to concerts and flea markets together. He and Greg shared an enthusiasm for classic cars, painstakingly restored a 1967 Ford Mustang, and together attended car shows and rallies and went on fly fishing road trips. Patrick was delighted to discover Jessica shared his love of calligraphy and he took great joy in gifting her some of his carefully collected fountain pens and inkwells. Often found at a bookstore or at the Larkspur Library, he was an avid and swift reader, and he would carefully select books to share with friends and family based on their interests. He loved "noodling around" on his electric and acoustic guitars, aiming to learn from the greats. Patrick was a member of the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club, where he taught entomology classes and worked with Project Healing Waters to help veterans heal through fly fishing. Most importantly, Patrick felt very grateful for the life he had and was committed to giving back. Always ready to listen, he would give carefully considered advice or use his legal talents to help friends, relatives, non profit agencies and friends of friends, joking that his only fee was "a cup of coffee." Patrick passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 14, 2023. He continued to show grace, strength and courage throughout his battle with cancer, treating each step with his trademark quiet sense of humor and thanking those involved in his care at every opportunity he had. Patrick and his family are profoundly grateful to everyone involved in his care at UCSF Medical Center. Patrick's family is proud of his legacy and will continue to honor his memory by following in his footsteps and giving back to those around them. We love him and we miss him every day, and he is always in our hearts. There will be a celebration of life for Patrick in the Spring. Donations in his memory can be made to Project Healing Waters at projecthealingwaters.org, or to the Larkspur Library Foundation.

It's been many years since Pat and I last spoke, but all of my memories of him are incredibly fond ones. I had the pleasure of working as his associate during my time at TO2, and I learned much about good trial work from him. He was always willing to engage in vigorous debate about the merits of a case or trial strategy, and it was from his tenacious pursuit of matters that I learned the most. The picture of him posted here captures his smile, which appears the same to me, despite the passage of more than 3 decades! He will be missed. My condolences to his family. And may his memory be for a blessing. Fondly, Jeff Brandstetter

My heartfelt condolences to Pat's wife Robin and his family and close friends. Pat was my trial tutor years back in his day as a tough and excellent
trial attorney. He was the wise one, as well as a good friend. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and for your loss. In sympathy, Steve Teraoka

Pat and I and several other lawyers tried a case together in Martinez in 2008. The trial was three months long, so Pat and I got to know each other pretty well. He was an excellent attorney and always polite and honorable. He will be missed.

I was fortunate to join the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity when Pat also pledged in 1968-9. Life carried me away for a couple of decades, but upon returning, it was Pat whom I reconnected with most, as we lived close by. During Covid, before the vaccines, we'd meet up in a nearby park, ( sitting apart at separate picnic tables) every couple weeks to swap books and car magazines, and talk about out lives. He was so blessed with his wife and family. And his Brothers from USF. The trout can rest easy.
