ROBERT JOHN BARBIERI

Robert John Barbieri Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on January 17, 2012. Born 93 years ago to Florence J. and Albert J. Barbieri, Bob was raised in San Francisco and was proud to be a 4th generation San Franciscan. He attended St. Ignatius High School and earned a B.S. from the University of San Francisco in 1940. While in college he was on the rowing team and was also a member of the Dolphin Club rowing team at Aquatic Park. On the same day in 1947 he earned an M.B.A from Stanford University and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco. During WWII he spent four years in the United States Army. As a First Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps under General Patton's D-Day surge, he survived the landing of Omaha Beach and went on to serve in Europe until the end of the war. After returning home, Bob began his career as a prominent trial attorney. During the first 10 years of his career he was also an Associate Professor of Business Law at the University of San Francisco. Bob retired in 1985. In addition to many professional and sporting organizations, he was an active member of The Family, the Marin Yacht Club and the St. Francis Yacht Club. His passions included fishing, hunting, boating, travelling, tending his beautiful rose garden and hosting family gatherings and holidays at his home in San Rafael. As a life-long fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Bob felt fortunate to have attended each of their five Super Bowls. Bob was a generous man whose big voice preceded him everywhere. Bob was a devout Catholic and had many lifelong friends. Bob is survived by his wife, Karrol, children, Stephen Barbieri (Sara), Teresa Barbieri, Susan Barbieri, Leslie Rea (Geary), Ellen Rollins (Peter), Julie Barbieri-Mitchell (Brendan) and grandchildren, Riley Rea, Tristan Barbieri, Nathan Rea, Kealan Barbieri, and Rachel Daley. Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen and his son, Peter. We love him dearly and will miss him always. Friends may visit between 6:00 p.m and 8:00 p.m. with vigil service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2012 at HALSTED N. GRAY - CAREW & ENGLISH at 1123 Sutter Street, San Francisco. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Green and Steiner Streets, San Francisco.
