Steven George Wilhelm

1944 - 2023

Steven George Wilhelm, (79), of San Rafael, California, passed away on December 6, 2023, from Leukemia. He never lost hope or his enjoyment of life.Steve was born on June 18, 1944, in Brownwood, Texas to Albert George Wilhelm and Irene Ann Wilhelm (McGuire). Although his parents were from San Francisco, Steve was born in Texas where his father was stationed in the Army. When his father was deployed overseas to Okinawa in the Pacific Theater of World War II, Steve and his mother moved back to San Francisco where he grew up and graduated from Alvarado Elementary, James Lick Middle School, Mission High School and then San Francisco State. In 1964, Steve joined the Army Reserve and served until 1970.Steve married Susan Wilhelm (Hanson) on January 27, 1968, and joined the San Francisco Police Department a few months later on May 16, 1968. He loved his time in the Police Department, especially the officers he worked with. He always said the Police Department was a family. He retired from the San Francisco Police Department (Burglary Detail) after 31 years of service on July 5, 1999. After retirement, Steve wasn't finished serving the City of San Francisco and went back to work for the Police Department for another 10 years as a part time employee doing background investigations. He would always attend the Police Academy graduations when one of his police recruits graduated. If you were one of these police officers, know that he was proud of you and would often ask how you were doing.Steve and Cheryll Boissevain, both widowed, met through a mutual friend in 2016. They married in 2020 and spent seven happy years together traveling and spending time with family and friends. The Wilhelm family will always be grateful for the love, support, and strength that Cheryll and her family had for Steve.Steve is survived by his wife Cheryll Boissevain; brother Roger (Sally) Wilhelm of Novato; two sons Doug (Karen) Wilhelm of Novato; Chris (Angela) Wilhelm of Castro Valley; and two grandchildren Grant and Adelaide Wilhelm.Steve is preceded in death by his wife Susan of 47 years, and his beloved grandson Zachary. Steve was a husband, father, grandfather, and a friend. His love, heart of gold and kindness will live on through all of us and he will forever be missed. A memorial service will be held on January 13th at 11:00am at Marin Covenant Church, 195 N Redwood Drive, San Rafael.
