Grace McDougal Obituary

MARION: Grace C. McDougal, age 85, of Marion, died early Wednesday morning, February 3, 2010, at Heartland of Marion following an extended illness.
On June 30, 1924, Grace was born in Scioto County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Walter and Lula (Tomlison) Colegrove. She graduated High school in the class of 1942 and enjoyed studying for her classes and was the class valedictorian.
After meeting Samuel A. McDougal at an Epworth Church youth group the two became inseparable and were married on February 4, 1951, in Marion. The two would have celebrated their 59th anniversary this year.
A meticulous lady, everyone knew Grace to get the job done and get it done right. This was no exception while she worked 20 years for the Corps of Engineers in Dayton, Cincinnati, and Marion, also known as the Marion Engineer Depot.
A woman of faith, Grace was an active member at the Epworth United Methodist Church for over thirty years where she was also the Church Secretary for 19 years. In 2007, she graduated from Bible Study Fellowship and remained active for two years.
Always active in the community, Grace held many prestigious positions such as the United Methodist Woman's Officer for the District, a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild, a Secretary of Findlay District, and held a position with the Marion Engineers Depot Women's Club.
Grace will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews, Rose (John) Subert, Bonnie (Rick) Cooper, Richard (Marsha) Metcalfe, Cheryl (Paul) Burkholder and their children, Summer and April, Edna Herr, Susan Hersey, Robert (Cindy) Metcalfe, Randy (Chris) McGincy, Edna (Mac) Magruder, and Karen (Daniel) Spraklen; and special friend, Peggy Vance.
Including her parents, Grace was preceded in death by one brother, Earl W. Colegrove; and one sister, Ruth A. Brown.
The McDougal family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday February 5, 2010, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Calling hours will also be observed one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2010, at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 249 E. Center St. Rev. Dan Kiger and Rev. Colleen Ogle will be officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the American Red Cross Marion Chapter, 1849 Summerset Drive, Marion, 43302.
