Paul Hughes Obituary

Paul Francis Hughes

WESTLAKE: Paul Francis Hughes was born on January 22, 1960 and he left this life on March 22, 2016. Paul was the devoted husband of Robin (Miller), the loving father of Timothy and Elizabeth; the beloved son of (the late) Martin Hughes and Natalie Hughes; the inseparable brother of Carl and Martin; the caring uncle to John, Makela and Patrick; and the brother-in-law of Wayland Miller (Adie), David Miller and Sandra Miller (Tuddy).

Paul was a systems analyst in security operations with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. He was a valuable liaison with counterparts in other Federal Reserve Banks. He was trained in Information Technology at both Miami University and Ohio State University, and in an earlier position with the Court of Claims of Ohio, he made notable contributions in that judicial body's information technology system. He was also previously a computer consultant to the Fahey Bank of Marion, Ohio, and he served for a time as a member of the board of that financial institution.

Paul was a graduate of St. Edward High School, class of 1978, and a graduate of The Ohio State University, class of 1984. Paul was an active wrestler, hockey player, and horseback rider when he was in school, and took great pleasure when his children took part in, and excelled at the same activities. Having a passion for the wilderness, Paul enjoyed backpacking in the Chiricahua Mountains and canoeing through the Algonquin Provincial Park in Canada. He often recalled these trips being some of the most vivid memories he had. He loved animals, recalling the moose in Canada, the birds he watched outside and his animals at home. His mother, Natalie, recalls, that her youngest son had a powerful desire to please others, and that Paul's Christmas gifts were always the first ones under the Christmas tree.

Not long after the turn of the millennia, Paul was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He was the father of young children when he was afflicted, and he suffered grievously for the next decade and more. In commenting on his brother's life, Carl Hughes said, "Paul was a loving and incredibly patient man who exhibited a wonderful spirit even in the midst of his terrible suffering. I really do see him as heroic. I also know that he was sustained throughout by the Christian faith he learned at his mother's knee."

Paul's funeral service will be at Bethesda on the Bay Lutheran Church, 28607 Wolf Rd, Bay Village at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Friends will be received for one hour before the service. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery Marion, Ohio at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Family suggests contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

I am very sorry for your loss. Paul and I met at the nursing home. He was my friend and I will miss him. I am thankful for the time I did get to know him and you, his family. We,truly, had fun sneaking off the floor to the patio for a smoke..sorry..We new it didn't make you happy but, we had very little to amuse us. We really had fun playing games on and towards the staff much to their dismay. Some didn't get our sense of humor but we were having fun and that's all that mattered, to us. Love you and miss you Paul..xoxo, Joy
