Phyllis Walker Obituary

Phyllis Ann Walker

UPPER SANDUSKY: Phyllis Ann Walker, age 73, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 12:40pm at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

She was born on June 27, 1940 in Chandlersville, Ohio, to James E. and Mildred G. (Clapper) Tom, both of whom are deceased. She has been married to John M. Walker for 51 years, 4 months, and 4 days, having been married on February 10, 1963 in Chandlersville, and he survives.

Phyllis Ann is also survived by a son, Trevor (Angela) Walker of Montgomery Village, Maryland; and two daughters, Jacala (Leland) Kemerley of Carey, and Tonya (Andrew) Wenig, of Edinburgh, Indiana; along with three grandchildren, Jana (Matthew) Lortz and Megan (Josh Regutti-fiance) Kemerley and Tyler Wenig; and a great grandson, Aaron Lortz. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Tom.

Phyllis Ann was a homemaker and deputy clerk for the Marion Municipal Court for 15 years, retiring in 2000. Before that she was a clerk for Muskingum County Court in Zanesville for three years. Phyllis Ann was a 1959 graduate and Salutatorian of Chandlersville High School. She went on to graduate from the Meredith Business College. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky and attended the Erhman Family small group. For hobbies, Phyllis Ann enjoyed playing the piano, collecting snowmen and cats meow collectables, spending time on her iPad. She also was a diehard Cincinnati Reds fan and watching college basketball.

Phyllis Ann will be remembered for her passion for life, which started with her surviving polio at a young age and achieving things in her journey that doctors said would not be possible, such as playing the piano and having a family. Family was everything to her, for she loved and cared for everyone, and was always there for them. She will be greatly missed by her husband, children and grandchildren.

Funeral services for Phyllis Ann Walker will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, June 18, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey, Ohio. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, from 2:30pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, in memory of Phyllis Ann as a Polio Survivor, that memorials be given to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.

Dear John and all of the family, We want to let you know we are thinking of you during this very difficult time. Phyllis Ann was such a fine person and she was at her finest when she talked of you and how proud she was of all of you. Having worked with Phyllis Ann for many years at Marion Municipal Court, I saw firsthand what an honorable and sweet lady she was. I am so glad we were able to reconnect by phone a few years ago but so sorry we never got together. May she rest in peace and may all of you cherish your many wonderful memories of her. Sincerely, Sandy and Bob Cramer
