Blaise C Plageman, age 87, of Collinsville, Va. passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Blaise was born in Richmond, Va. on October 10, 1937, Blaise was the son of the late Charles F. and Katherine D. Plageman.
In addition to his parents, Blaise was predeceased by his wife, Teresa Farrall Plageman.
He is survived by his daughter, Katherine Plageman and a grandchild, Destiny Alexis Plageman; his brother, David Plageman (Nancy) of Richmond, VA; nephews Charles F. Plageman (Cathy) of Lexington, VA and Stephen A. Plageman (Kelly) of Glen Allen, VA; nieces Lynn P. Baldasare of Williamsburg, VA, Marry Shannon P. Garbett (Buddy), and Page P. Berling (Henry) of Richmond, VA, and all their loving families. His family wishes to thank Donna Carter for her years of devoted service.
He was a graduate of Benedictine High School in Richman, VA (1995) and Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC (1964). Prior to his time at Belmont Abbey, Blaise enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably for three years. He was then called to the Roman Catholic priesthood and served in the monastic communities (OSB) in Belmont and Richmond. He received his master's degree from the University of Notre Dame. Blaise became a Catholic chaplain to the state penitentiary when it was in Richmond, during which he enjoyed some of his most fulfilling work as a priest. It was in his work with prisoners that Blaise found his true calling.
After 15 years in the priesthood, Blaise joined the Virginia state penal system and became the superintendent of the medium security prison outside of Martinsville, from which he retired several years ago.
Blaise was dedicated to his faith community in Martinsville and tended to the sick and those in need. He always had a kind word or loving smile and never met a stranger. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 pm on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2481 Spruce Street, Martinsville, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Benedictine College Preparatory, Goochland, VA, Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, NC, or St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Martinsville, VA.
