John Martin Obituary

John C. Martin

John C. Martin, 70, of Martinsville, Virginia, transition to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at SOVAH Health of Danville, Virginia. He was born on July 16, 1951, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Fletcher and Catherine Taylor Martin.

He was a faithful member, Sunday School Superintendent and board member of Mt. Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church. John loved his church family and enjoyed caring for the church. He was known as a fun loving devoted husband, father as well as father figure to many in his family circle. John was a graduate of the Class of 1969, the first class of Martinsville High School.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Fletcher Martin Jr; and two brothers-in-law, Jesse Penn Jr. and Lee Edward Hairston.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Lillian Finnette Millner Martin; daughters, LaDonna M. Hairston and LaToya R. Martin of Martinville, Va.; two grandsons, Machaun (Tanesha) Moore Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Ishmael J. Hairston of Killeen, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Jalil and Sage; four sisters, Lois Diane Martin Hairston, Cheryl (Joerome) Morrison, Beryl Penn, and Levica (Randolph) Yates; five sisters-in-law, Monique Jamison, Neana Millner, Loretta Martin, Andrea Mullins Millner and Jolette P. Martin; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, September 5, 2021, at 2 p.m. at GIPHC Carver Assembly building with visitation 30 minutes before. Presiding, the Reverened Charles Whitfield and Pastor Monique Jamison eulogist. Burial will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.

We remember John as very quiet, but he enjoyed laughing and having fun with his closest friends. It is not surprising to hear what an influence he had on others, and especially being an encouragement to younger folks. We were classmates in that first class @ MHS. Our sympathy and prayers to his family and friends.
