Cynthia Dunbar-Randall Obituary

CYNTHIA GRACE DUNBAR-RANDALL
1938 - 2025
Chesterfield
Cynthia grew up in the small town of Chester, NH. She and her sister, Janice, enjoyed the life of two popular teenagers in the 1950s, spending summers working at Hampton Beach resorts and restaurants.
She attended nursing school in Boston and soon after married Dudley Laufman, with whom she had four children, raising them at their homestead in Canterbury, NH.
She moved with the children to Amherst, MA, in 1966. After working in the microbiology lab at U Mass, she began her long career with the Department of Youth Services, making a positive difference in the lives of many young people in Massachusetts.
She married Jerry Randall in 1973. They were steadfast partners in business and life. She stood by Jerry's side in every adventure, lending unflinching support to his every exploit. Together, they founded and ran Valley Motorsports. They had homes in Hawaii and Florida at different times, where they made lifelong friends, but they would always return to their home in Chesterfield, their haven of comfort and joy. During her last years, she enjoyed traveling with Jerry; they went to Europe and the British Isles several times, including her beloved Scotland.
She served on the boards of United Cerebral Palsy and, later, Pioneer Developmental Services. She was an avid quilter and a lifelong learner of many art forms, taking a wide variety of classes and seminars. She spent several years playing in a league at the Pine Grove Golf Club
She loved her children, providing gentle guidance and unwavering dedication to their happiness and success, and she doted on her grandchildren, supporting them in every step of their ways.
She was an excellent cook, baker, and gardener. Her greatest joys came from tending her gardens and watching the many birds coming to her feeders.
Cyndi loved life. She was the most cheerful and positive person anyone could meet, and she will be missed by us all.
She is survived by her beloved husband Jerry Randall, and their dearest dog Gracie.
Her children: Heidi (Jerry) Eide of Wendell, MA, Bronwen (Eugene) Hairston of Clearwater, FL, Nathaniel Laufman of Freeville, NY, Singwen (Daniel) Gobillot of Leeds, MA, stepson Frank (Donna) Gori of Brockton, MA, and dear foster daughter Beth Laurenson.
Grandchildren: Tucker (Kristin) Mientka of Charlemont, MA, Mick Mientka of Westfield, MA, Madison (fiancé Leroy) Mientka of Shelburne Falls, MA, and Ayana Gori of Boston, MA
Kealee and Simone Rainaud, Jenorrow (Arelys and Naeco), and Jacob King, Sam Eide, and Luke and Huckle May.
Nieces and Nephews: Kevin and Jeffrey Clark, Cathy, Elizabeth, Stephen, and Sarah Mason.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Dorothy Dunbar, and her cherished sister, Janice Clark.

My deepest condolences to Heidi, Bronwen, Nathaniel and Jerry, and to one of my favorite people Singwen who allowed me the pleasure of knowing her Mom from 1979 on. I loved the way Cynthia was so easygoing with life, her kids and I idolized her being a beautifully open person who was positive about even the wildest situations presented to her. She gave me my favorite poetry book for HS graduation and I let the old one go of my moms and kept hers. Having a small glimpse into this gracious soul was a blessing only shadowed by my own gratitude for her daughter Singwen, who has been an irreplaceable friend throughout many decades. Fly high Cynthia with all of those beautiful birds you nurtured, we will catch up with you in a beautiful garden
