Mr. Dowd was my physics teacher in High School. I used to go to his room before school began and we would play a game with a dented copper ball, i.e., trying to get it to roll across the table top and stop several inches before falling over the edge. I really liked him as a teacher and as a man. I often think of him now and the fun and education that I received from him. I enjoyed learning physics from him. One of the best teachers that I ever had. Thank you.

I was privileged to work with Jim at STCC for years. His unfailing good humor, his honesty, his intelligence and his kindness made him a respected member of the campus community. He was easy to talk to, willing to work towards solutions, and thoughtful when approached by anyone on campus. He was a contributor to many campus activities. Nobody knew the campus better than he did. I am so sorry to learn that he has died.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on Mr Dowd's passing. He was my 7th grade science teacher and a great leader of young men having served in the USMC. He was so good that he drilled the Periodic Tables into us and I remember them to this day! He also had the sad duty of telling us that President Kennedy had been assassinated. He had tears in his eyes when he announced it to us. I think so many of us are better people because we learned from Mr Dowd. I stopped to look him up on my first leave home as a Viet Nam vet. He was proud and I was proud to meet him as a veteran! May he rest in peace in the arms of God where he has surely earned his place in eternal life! Sempir Fi Marine!
