1946 - 2025
Longmeadow
Phyllis Susan Dindas beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 79.
Born on June 26, 1946, in Philadelphia, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Leo and Evelyn Slutzky. She grew up in Philadelphia and went on to earn her undergraduate degree in education from Boston University. After teaching in New York City public schools, she returned to school and earned her Master's degree in Social Work from SUNY Buffalo, launching a deeply fulfilling 40-year career.
Phyllis met the love of her life, Mark Dindas, when they were both camp counselors at an overnight camp-a meeting that blossomed into a lifelong partnership. They were married on June 16, 1968, and built a life together marked by deep love, shared adventures, and unwavering support for one another. Phyllis and Mark moved their family to Longmeadow, MA in 1982, where the family continues to reside.
Phyllis had a passion for travel, but no place brought her more joy than the family's "camp" on Upper Narrows Pond in Winthrop, Maine.
She was profoundly proud of her work as a psychotherapist. In her spare time, she walked the Boston Marathon twice, in support of The Jimmy Fund, which was near and dear to her heart. She played mahjong and canasta with friends and read to school children as a volunteer for Links to Libraries.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Mark, her daughters Beth Dindas of Portland, Maine, and Jodi (Robert) DiTusa of Longmeadow, and her two treasured granddaughters, Jordan and Noa DiTusa. She leaves her sister, Debra (Bruce) Webb of California. Additionally, she leaves behind her best friend of 40+ years, Ginny Lepow.
Phyllis will be remembered for her devotion to her husband and her family.
Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched-professionally and personally.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her care giver, Olivene Jarrett, who gave her love unconditionally to Phyllis and her family.
Phyllis's funeral will be Tuesday August 19th at 11:00 AM at the Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home with burial to follow in B'nai Jacob Cemetery. One shiva service will be held Tuesday August 19th at 5:00 PM at the home of Jodi and Rob DiTusa, 183 Hopkins Place in Longmeadow.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Springfield Jewish Community Center or to the Jewish Nursing Home of Western MA.

Phyllis touched the lives of so many children over the years through Link to Libraries' Read Aloud program. My condolences to Mark and the family for Phyllis' s passing. I will always remember her smiling face ,laughter and love for the family. Seder time at Poppop Joe's, visiting when they lived in Ventnor Heights and visiting when they were in Florida. In fact, Phyllis was the first person in the family to hear about a guy I was dating. PAUL . That was about 40 years ago. She was so excited for me. I have many memories of Phyllis and Mark and the Bat Mitvahs of Jodi and Beth were so much fun.
