Alan Morrison Obituary

Dr. Alan Morrison, of Allentown, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital – Allentown on November 27, 2022. He was 95 years old. He celebrated 61 years with his loving wife and partner, Judy Fenichel. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Dr. Maurice and Jeanne Morrison. He was an excellent student who graduated from Amherst College in 1947, at age 18, and attended State University of NY, Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, did his residency at Queens General Hospital and Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn, his fellowship at New England Center Hospital, then joined the staff of The Brooklyn Jewish Hospital. In 1972, he moved to Allentown, becoming Chief of Medical Oncology/Hematology at St. Luke's Hospital in 1975, and became a leader in researching ever-improving cancer treatments. He also started his private practice of Oncology/Hematology of the Lehigh Valley, with offices both at St. Luke's and Sacred Heart Hospitals, retiring in 2007. Thereafter, he continued to provide his expertise, while volunteering at the Allentown VA. He treated all of his patients with brilliance and sensitivity. At the hospitals, he was recognized with his familiar turtleneck sweaters, and his pager dangling on a rope around his neck.

Ever the optimist, he always had a smile, and was loved and admired by all. Upon retiring, he and Judy enjoyed spending time with their sons and their families, traveling, dinners with friends, attending theater and concerts, listening to books on his Victor Reader from the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD), and getting involved in many volunteer activities, including Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed "SKIing," (Spending Kids' Inheritance) on family vacations, and the ABC's, Anticipation of a trip, Being there, and Conversations afterwards. We will all miss his ever-engaging discussions.

Dr. Morrison is survived by his wife, Judy; his son, Dr. Robert Morrison and wife, Amy; his son, Peter Morrison, Ph.D. and wife, Beth; his son, Michael Morrison and wife, Amy. He was also loved by his grandchildren, Abby and her husband, Benjamin Feinberg, Rachel and her husband, Jeffrey Mermelstein, and Twyla Morrison; step-granddaughters, Kacey and Nora. Additionally, he was blessed with a great-granddaughter, Madison Joy Feinberg. Dr. Morrison was predeceased by his sister, Lucille Peterman.

Judy and Family, my deepest sympathy and desire for God's comfort to you all. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Dr. Morrison personally but have such fondness for his delightful wife, Judy, as a fellow Meals on Wheels volunteer I've heard many stories of their adventures as they served the community together delivering meals to those less fortunate. What an absolute joy to know Dr. Morrison gave of himself to this world in so many ways to the very end. God bless and keep you all.
