Alfred Piergallini Obituary

Alfred Adam Piergallini- a career consumer products executive, leader and mentor to many- passed away in Scottsdale, AZ on January 9, 2021.

Born August 1, 1946 in Easton, PA, to Adam Martin and Mary Bavaria Piergallini, Alfred was a 1964 graduate of Easton High School. Alfred was a standout scholar athlete, lettering in baseball and football, but he excelled at his true love, football.

Alfred was a cum laude graduate of Lafayette College where he was a star two-way football player for 4 years. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with a B.A. in Economics in 1968.

After graduating from Lafayette College, Alfred married the late Lorraine Leraris of Roseto, PA at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Roseto. They were married for 50 years until her passing in August, 2019. Together, they moved to Chicago, IL, where Alfred received his MBA in Marketing and Finance from the University of Chicago.

From there, Piergallini held executive positions at Proctor and Gamble, Shasta Beverages, and the Carnation Company before ultimately taking on the role of Chairman, President and CEO of Gerber Products at the age of 43. In 1994, he facilitated the sale of Gerber to Novartis Consumer Health. In February 1999, Alfred was appointed Novartis Consumer Health North America President and CEO. In December of that same year, he took over as Chairman, President, and CEO of Novartis Consumer Health Worldwide. He retired from that position in 2001.

During his retirement, Alfred started his own consulting business and served on the board of directors for companies such as Comerica, Ocean Spray, and Central Garden and Pet. Additionally, he was an investor as well as Chairman, President and CEO of Wisconsin Cheese Group.

Alfred will be remembered for his intellect, his quick wit, his kindness, and his complete dedication to his family. He is survived by his loving children, Adam and Allison, grandson Donovan and daughter-in-law, Perla. He is also survived by his brother, Adam. Services for Alfred will be private.

Dear Allison and Adam,
You have not met me but you have probably heard your mother and father talk about me. I was the maid of honor in your mother and father’s wedding. I grew up with your father in MartinsCreek and your mother was my best friend in high school. I knew of your mother’s illness and I was sad to hear of your mother’s death. Your father was an example to all of a home town boy made good . I remember both fondly. I am having a mass said for them both.
God bless you both and your families.

Allison & Adam,

At this time, words are so inadequate to express my sorrow for another great loss in your lives. The loss of both parents in a short time is heartbreaking . Their legacy will live on through you. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers .

I graduated with your Mom, Lorraine, from Pius X High School (Roseto,PA) in 1964.

I worked with Al at Gerber for six months before I left to join Campbell Soup. He was such a good person, and we were nearly the same age. I will never forget that I got called back from a trip to Chicago when it was to be announced that Al was becoming the new CEO at Gerber. We worked together with Jim Lovejoy on a press release on a Sunday afternoon. Al gave me a ride back to the airport in GR so that I could catch a flight back to Chicago and not miss all of my holiday (New Year's) there. We had a great conversation about his taking over the helm at Gerber. When I told him a few months later that I would be leaving, he was so supportive that I had made the right decision and relayed his own experiences in moving from Carnation. Just a wonderful person.

Allison, Adam and family:

I worked for Al in Fremont and got to know both he and Lorraine. After Al was relocated to NJ, and then I retired we eventually lost touch. I am very sorry for all of you to have lost two very special people in your lives. I know they left you with many memories to cherish and those can never be taken away. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Adam, Allison, and family,

I was sadden to hear of your dad’s passing and then heartbroken to read that your mother had passed away. I regret that we have lost touch over the years.

I worked in the executive office wit Al at Gerber. Al was one of the best executives that I had the pleasure of working with during my working career. He was respectful, personable, kind, and had a phenomenal business sense. He so loved your mother and both of you. I personally have such wonderful memories and stories during my time of working with him.

I truly loved the friendship that I had with your mother also. She was a fun, loving person. Their relationship and stories I so enjoyed. I am so sorry for your losses.

May your memories of your parents and the love they shared with each other and with both of you, warm your heart and bring smiles to your faces. I cannot imagine the excitement they had at being grandparents!

God bless the Piergallini family!

I first met Al at Centerfield Elementary School, then went on to Wolf Jr. High School, and then to Easton Area High School when we graduated together in the Class of 1964. Alfred was a very special man, very kind, respectful, and a very talented person. I am sending my heartfelt condolences to Al's family. He will never be forgotten.

Adam
Thank you for sharing the news of your father's passing. He was an accomplished leader and a great supporter and friend of our company. He leaves us with a lasting legacy. As I would visit with Al, he would often speak of you and your sister and how proud he was of both of you.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
