Benjamin Walbert Jr., V.M.D.
Benjamin L. Walbert Jr., V.M.D., 86, of South Whitehall Township, died March 18, 2004, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Mary (Brown) Walbert. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last June. He practiced veterinary medicine in the Lehigh Valley for 40 years before retiring. He was a son of the late Benjamin L. Sr. and Flora (Hersh) Walbert. He attended Muhlenberg College and graduated from the University of Pennysylvania in 1940. He was a major in the Army Veterinary Corps during World War II. He was a former president of Woodlawn Fire Company and a past president of the Lehman Rod and Gun Club, Bushkill. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Greenleaf Masonic Lodge 561. He served on the board of directors of the Alumni Executive Council of Muhlenberg College. He was a member of the Lehigh County Game Preserve advisory board and a life member of the Allentown Rotary Club and the American Veterinary Association. He was a past president of the Lehigh Valley Veterinary Association. He was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church, Orefield. Survivors: Wife; sons, Benjamin L. III of Jim Thorpe, Peter C. of Bloomfield, Conn.; three grandchildren, Katie, Benjamin and Alex. Services: memorial, 11 a.m. March 23 in the church, 5103 Snowdrift Road, Orefield. No calling hours. Arrangements, J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Jordan Lutheran Church, 5103 Snowdrift Road, Orefield, Pa 18069.
