Carl Case Obituary

92 years 8 months 27 days

Carl Ellsworth Case of Whitehall passed away peacefully on June 2, 2023. He was predeceased in 2015 by his wife of 63 years, Doris Mae (Bateman) Case. Born in Pen Argyl, he was the son of the late Ellsworth John Case and Mary Jane (Bonney) Case. Carl was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, as well as a respected teacher, coach, and friend. He was a long-time member of St. John's UCC Fullerton. Carl was a 1948 graduate of Pen Argyl High School, then earned his Bachelor's degree at Moravian College, and later a Master's degree from Temple. After marrying Doris, he and his new family lived for three years in Washington, NJ where he began his teaching and coaching careers. They then moved to Catasauqua, and he began his long tenure at Whitehall High School as a math teacher and multi-sport coach, remembered for his dedication to his students, players, and his community. He was elected to the Athletic Halls of Fame at Pen Argyl and Whitehall High Schools. Carl and Doris were also busy raising five children with great love and nurture. As grandchildren began arriving, they bought a home on three acres near Neffs that became a paradise for all to gather for holidays, celebrations, and cart rides around the property or truck rides to the pool. The love and nurture, the learning and laughter never stopped, even as great-grandchildren arrived.

He is survived by sons Carl Jr (Ruth), Jon (Barbara Carlson), Mark (Nancy), Eric (Kelly) and daughter Cheryl Mill (Robert); grandchildren Carl III, Kimberly; Evan, Adam; Sara, Matthew, Amy, Elizabeth; Patrick, Michael, Daniel, Jennifer; Josh, Andrew and Aaron; twelve great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and their families; predeceased by his sister Elma Weber.

Services will be 11:00 am Friday June 23, 2023 in Saint John's UCC Fullerton, 575 Grape Street, Whitehall, PA 18052, with Rev. Steven Davis officiating. Visitation with his family will begin at 9 am in the Church Parlor. Interment private

Its hard to believe you are in heaven a year. You truly bled maroon and gold and was one of the best coaches in Whitehall history. I hope you and my pop are having a good time up there. God bless. Ross Steckel

I had the pleasure of playing quarterback against Emmaus in his last football game he was head coach in Nov. of 1968. The week earlier we ironically played Catasauqua and won. That was his last game he coached and won. He was responsible for helping my brother Rick in winning the 3A State basketball championship in 1982. My pop was then the athletic director as well as Dick Tracy was the head basketball coach. Now they are together in heaven . The whole Steckel family is there to give Carl and his whole family the best. God Bless. Ross Steckel

I didn't know Carl long, but he was a very nice person. I would talk to him sometimes when I would go to visit my dad he would be sitting in the lobby.
Sorry for your loss. God bless your family in your time of sorrow.

To the Case Family,
I´m so very sorry for your loss. I never had him in school. I do have fond memories of him in church and talking to him at basketball games. I and my oldest son golfed with twice. He was a very kind and respectful man. Rest easy Mr. Case!
