Father Bill Stopp and mother Ann were incredibly proud of their son, Charley who lived his life as they had envisioned. Bill was his son's mentor who, himself, lived a life of community service to Germansville in his work for the volunteer fire company and his faithful attendance at Heidelburg Lutheran Church. It was so fitting that Bill enjoyed his final years of this life living next door to Charles and Barbara on Franklin Street in Slatington. Charles Stopp left a huge legacy in the form of his friends and legal clients that will long be remembered by those whom he knew as friends. God bless you Barbara and your sons, David and Peter.

Just a few reflections over the past year. Charlie playing with my soon to be wife´s two piece custom made pool cue (thanks Jim Croce) at the now defunct Crystal Bowl in Kutztown. Him also along with Bill Kocher hosting my 21st Birthday party at their apartment at Audrey Ann in 1969. Playing football on the beach in Atlantic City Sept 1970, after the summer crowds were gone. Charlie with a Swisher Sweets and a big smile at some bar in Atlantic City, circa 1970´s. Playing football at his annual Mud Bowl. His crazy hand signals during intramural basketball at Kutztown.

Charlie, not a day goes by that I don't think of you. If I hear news about one of our classmates, I want to call you and tell you about it. I hear a song that was popular when we were young, I think of you when you tried to sing it. I can still picture you using the cast on your broken arm as a wiffle ball bat. The night it was awful hot and neither of us could sleep, it was midnight and we went to Behlers pool and sat in the water up to our necks and just talked about our up coming school year. And, of course, the tin can telephone. We talked about that so much over the years. I still have the little statue you got me with the birds talking through a hedge on a tin can telephone. I love that and will always cherish it, as well as our friendship. That has a special place in my heart through eternity . Rest well -- fly with the angels.

To the best boss,
I can´t believe it´s already almost a year since you have passed. Your office now houses a new young attorney and it is odd every time I walk in the office to not see your name on the door or all your pictures and of course your fish on the wall. When I have questions I so miss having you there to ask and talk it out. I learned so much from you more than anyone or any class I could ever take. Thank you for that. Rest in pease boss you will never be forgotten.

I just heard about his passing and offer my condolences to his family, albeit a little late. Charles was the kindest smartest person I think I have known! It was always a pleasure working with him. He always was cool, calm and collected - and always so knowledgeable! - when helping the NLSD with legal issues. He will be missed by a lot of the community.

I have know Charlie as my Attorney/Friend for 35+ years. in that time he has seen me at my worst and best. He was always a steadfast source of kindness, friendship, intellectual resource and pillar of strength when needed. I hope that knowing he will be missed by the entire Lehigh Valley can allow us to support you at this time. The world has lost a true gentleman and one of the the most generous people when it came to sharing the goodness within him. Thank you for allowing us to know him and sharing his time with us. It is a gift I will cherish. I hope my words give you some peace and comfort. May God Bless you all..

From Asa to his Papa
Since I was young –
first used my lungs
I loved you dearly
So when you are in pain
Which has no gain
I spend my moments tearly
And when you are old
You still seem bold
Brave and smart
So through my life I will always
Love you in my heart

Barb and Family, You and Charlie are in our thoughts and prayers every day. We can't imagine how devastating Charlie's passing must be for you. He was a great friend. Oh - the outrageously fun trips we took before and just after we had kids when Charlie - and Barbara - took trip planning to new heights. With Eugene Handwerk and Ray Hoving families often joining in, those were years we were ready for anything. Charlie left us with a trove of cherished memories as he dared to lead us on paths less travelled. Countless times we have shared stories about Eaglesmere and the amazing toboggan ride (no one seems to know about it) and while people love skiing Killington, no one seems to have experienced being stalled by a blizzard enroute with only one vacant room at the closest inn - for the 8 of us. Charlie left way more than just a mark.

My condolences to Barb and Family.
I remember the days spent with Charlie and Mike Yenser in Germansville. We were in Cub Scouts together and remember the wiffle ball games, snowball fights and swimming at Neffs pool. During the summer days or Sunday afternoons I would ride my bike to Germansville to play with them or we would have a much larger group playing sports Also we would be together while our mothers played cards. Very fond memories of my youth,

Charlie and the whole Stopp family were such an integral part of soo many of my fondest childhood memories. Weekly tennis, picnics, thanksgiving, and countless family vacations we all spent together. You could always count on Charlie to make things entertaining, he was always the life of the party...constantly cracking jokes and even 15 years into my marriage he never stopped teasing me about my many boyfriends in highschool! Ha! So many amazing memories our families spent together, it will never be the same without him. He will be missed so much!

I am so sorry for your loss. Charlie was a great guy. Loved his dry sense of humor and the importance he felt about Scouting. I looked forward to seeing him at committee meeting and catching up about family. He always asked about my parents he was a truly caring man. He went camping with the troop often and we had such a good time. I will never forget the trip to Braden Airport. To Barbara and Family:
Charlie was a great guy, always willing to lend a helping hand. He made some great plays at shortstop filling in for Michael Kelly on our intramural softball team at Kutztown. I will always remember our days at Audrey Ann Apts. our Senior Year with Bill Kocher and John Minnich. I also appreciated him taking us to the Playboy Club in New York in the 1970’s and of course Charlie had a gold card. Always, the organizer, Charlie hosted a get together with Bill, John and myself and families about 22 years ago that was wonderful.

Dear Barbara and family,
It was with much sadness that I read in the newspaper that Charlie had passed away. Charlie was an outstanding lawyer exemplifying the highest integrity and professionalism in all that he did, and he was just an outstanding human being. The legal community and, indeed, the world are greatly diminished without him in it. He will be genuinely missed. Sincerest condolences to you on your great loss.

One of my favorite memories of Mr Stopp was at a band competition my senior year of high school (a million years ago). We won our division, and he was cheering with us, pure joy radiating from him. Later my grandmother told me that he pulled her aside to tell her how much he enjoyed watching me overflow with joy at our win. Mr Stopp’s excitement and joy was due to the kids being overjoyed. He genuinely cared about us and our happiness. His light will be missed.

Ann and Bill Stopp tried so long to have a child and Charles was his name. He was the last of the Winsler daughter' s kids born six months after Richard, my younger brother in 1948. Picture teen-aged Charles riding his motor scooter from his home in Germansville to the Behler place on Hunter Hill to attend a summer family gathering of people named Behler, Reabold, Stopp and Anderson for a day of swimming in Ellen's pool, eating corn on the cob and chicken BBQ. My mind sees Charlie at that age with his perpetual grin and his wonderful ability to make us all feel special to him.
Barbara, your husband and the father of your boys left you far too soon, but our Lord had need of him and so we are each left with a few old memories while you had a lifetime with him.

Charlie, I really don't know what to say. I'm having such a difficult time believing this is true. We've known each other nearly all our lives. We played together as children, we went to school together and graduated together. Our summers consisted of playing baseball, basketball, swimming or fishing. Winters we would go sledding or ice skating. At Christmas we would trade going to each other's home to celebrate the holiday. Quiet evenings, admiring the tree lights, and most years, snow falling. Great times and wonderful memories my friend. As we got older and got married, we never lost touch with each other. We enjoyed dinners together, had great phone conversations, and Emails just to keep in touch. We knew many of the same people, who we kept in touch with as well. My mom always loved your visits, she would ask you all kinds of questions, and had some laughs, She always said that she had never seen you without a smile, and I'd just say neither have I. Your friendship was God's gift to me, for which I will always be grateful. I will never forget our last Emails to each other. I got the news that I never, ever wanted to hear. That you were VERY ill. We talked, and I knew you were scared. In some small way, I really hope I made you feel better. You took a big piece of my heart with you when you left, take care of it till we see each other again. I know part of you will always stay with me forever.
Barb, David, Peter and families, you have my deepest condolences. My whole family is gone, and I totally know the pain you're going through. I wish there was something I could do to help. Barb, if you ever want to talk, I'm always here, and I would certainly welcome your call. Charlie told me you have a new pup, that he dearly loved. I know she will help ease your heart everyday. Take care

This is very sad news. Charlie was so much a part of Slatington and the community family. I remember when my older children went to the Track parties at the Stopps home. It was so perfectly organized, keys and shoes checked at the door and well supervised and lots of food! Parents were always welcome to be at the upstairs gathering. To Barbara, and family my sincerest condolences, my heart breaks for you and you will all be in our prayers.

Charlie, I don't even know how to deal with the thought of you not being here. We've been friends for so long, I can't remember when we weren't. We lived next door to each other for many years. We played together as children. Always playing baseball, swimming, fishing, sledding or skating you name it we did it. I remember you using the cast on your broken wrist as a wiffle ball bat. We went to school, and graduated together. Our Christmas Eves were something I will always remember. Quiet time, admiring the tree, usually snow falling every year. I remember us walking out to the bus stop together every morning, somehow we both came out our door at the same time. I remember us, studying together, each of us holding a sleeping cat and petting Trixie with our foot, also when you went Easter Shopping with your mom, and came home with a little box of baby Chicks. At first your mom was not pleased, but she grew to love those chicks as much as we did. As we grew up, we never lost touch with each other. We had some picnics and dinners together. Lots of phone calls, and Emails. Fun Times My Friend -- fun times. Then right before the holidays, We exchanged Emails, and I got the worst news I could ever hear. That you were very sick. I knew that you were scared, we talked it through and I hope in some small way I made you feel better. I feel like I've lost a brother, and you will take with you, a big piece of my heart. Hold on to that, till I see you again.
Barb, David, Peter, and families, you have my sincere condolences. I all too well know the pain of losing a loved one. I will forever miss him, and a part of him will stay with me forever. When Charlie used to stop by to see my mom, she was always so happy to see him and she would always say I don't think I've ever seen him without a smile.
So long my friend, fly with the Angels till we see each other again.

Barbara, David and Peter,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your husband/ father. His passing breaks my heart. I have worked for him at Steckel and Stopp for the last 8 years and every day was a privilege to work for such a caring, honest, loving, genuine man. He was more than my boss, he was my friend. I often told him he was like another dad/grandpa to me. Since the day i met Attorney Stopp he has never stopped teaching me things from the different angles of law, discussions of life and the world to kindness. The one thing i always admired about him was.. his kindness. It doesn't matter who you were, where you were from...Attorney Stopp was kind to everyone and had the same respect for every single person he met. The reason why i pursued a paralegal degree and decided to further my education was because of him. I will cherish all our memories. The world lost a noble, great man. i will miss our morning redneck jokes/ laughs. You will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace CWS!

So, so sad to hear of Charlie’s passing. I knew him years ago when we worked together at Hamm’s Drive In (now Katie’s) in New Tripoli. We had a fun time together with 3 other classmates of Charlie’s. I was the oldest and the only girl. Years later my husband and I would see him at the Neff Bank’s stock holder meetings. We would chat about our fun times at Hamm’s. He stopped by the family farm several years ago and reminisced. I also knew his father, “Stoppie” who was my elementary school bus driver and the local barber. The barber shop was in the back room of the bar at the Germansville Hotel. It was one of my husband’s fondest memories with my father- getting his haircut next to the bar in the hotel. He enjoyed talking to Charlie as well.
Charlie was a wonderful man and will be missed by his family and many acquaintances.

Charlie was one of the good guys---one of the nicest, most decent people I have ever known. When I began practicing law 44 years ago, Charlie was one of the first lawyers I met---and I thought all were like him. Oh, if only that were the case.
I hope that his wife and family will be comforted in their grief, knowing that their husband/ father/grandfather was one of the best---you should all know that the esteem you had for him was matched by the estemm his colleagues had for him.
Rest in peace, my friend.

Charles was a wonderful attorney and a true gentleman who I had the pleasure of working with. He will be greatly missed in the legal community. My deepest condolences to his wife Barbara and family.
