David Bear Obituary

Bear, David J.David J. Bear, 77, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015 at his residence in Kempton, in the presence of his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce E. (Walley) Bear in 2010. He was born in Reading, a son of the late Harold and Della (Adams) Bear. He was a life long farmer and christmas tree grower in the Albany Township area and also during this time he worked for approximately 15 years for the former General Battery Works, Reading, Pa. He was a peacetime veteran having served with the Pa. Army National Guard. David was a 43 year member of the Kempton Lions Club, having served in every club office including being a past president. He was awarded both the Melvin Jones Fellow and the Bing Miller Fellow for outstanding character, devotion and humanitarian services in District 14-P of Lions International. He was a 1955 graduate of Kutztown High School. He was also a member of the Kempton Fire Co. Survivors: . Survivors includes a daughter Connie L., wife of Jerry Brown, Slatington; a son Chris D. Bear of Kempton; a sister Beverly, wife of Barry Kochel, Columbia, SC and two granddaughters, Jessica and Rebecca Bear. He was predeceased by a sister Mabel Ketner. Services: His graveside service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading with Rev. David W. Blitch officiating. Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 6-7:30 PM in the Nester Funeral Home 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, Pa. 18066. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name are requested to Animals in Distress and/or the Kempton Lions Club, sent to the above funeral home address.
