Donald Acker Obituary

Donald F. Acker Sr.
Donald Frederick Acker Sr. of Brewster, Mass., passed away after a sudden illness on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, Mass. Don was born in Bethlehem, the son of the late William C. and Mary A. (Gorman) Acker. Don graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School and attended Kutztown State Teachers College. He was honorably discharged after four years from the Air Force. After his military service, he graduated from Valporaiso Technical Institute. He worked for General Electric Co. in Utica, N.Y., and for Smith-Corona Co. in Cortland, N.Y., for many years. From 1983 to 1993, he and his wife Ann were the owners and managers of Harbor View Village Resort, North Truro, Mass. He enjoyed his retirement with the love of his life. They were married for 55 1/2 years. Beginning with their 25th wedding anniversary, they traveled extensively worldwide. He was truly a gentle soul, loved by many who knew him. He was active with Dennis (Mass.) Union Church. His many hobbies included art, sculpting, cross country skiing and sports. He was a very active person, surprising all who knew him by taking up kayaking in recent years. Survivors: Loving wife, Ann Reed (Fraivillig) Acker; children, Donald F. Acker Jr. and his wife Marion of Allakaket, Alaska, Jeffrey C. Acker and his wife Carol of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Lucy A. Skruba and her husband Frank of Syracuse, N.Y.; grandchildren, Nokinba and his wife Rita Acker of Barrow, Alaska, Nikidoya Acker of Anchorage, Alaska, Katy Acker of San Diego, Calif., Christopher Acker in Wisconsin, Matt Skruba of Syracuse; two great-grandsons, a great-granddaughter; brother, William Acker of Bethlehem.
