Jacob Elliott Obituary

Jacob J. Elliott, 100
Jacob Jake Elliott, 100, died Tuesday morning April 5, 2005 in ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem, after a period of declining health. He was born November 17, 1904 in Danville, son of the late Jacob and Laura Elliott. Jake was married to Mary. A. Anderko for 66 years prior to her death in 1998. Jake was a multi-talented, fun-loving person. His zest for life was contagious. His recipe for clam chowder and clam-baking were well renowned. When he wasnt displaying his culinary skills, he was entertaining with game, song and dance. Jake was just a plain loving guy who never met a stranger. Besides working as a foreman for Bethlehem Steel Corp. for more than 30 years, Jake was an entrepreneur, organizing and operating businesses from his home. Most notably is the Shively Moving Company which is still in operation today. He was a member of the Heights Athletic Association. Jefferson Democratic Club, Grover Cleveland Club and the 540s Club. Survivors: Jake and his wife, Mary, were parents to three children, the late Dorothy Errante of Salisbury, N.C., their living son and daughter, Dr. Jacob Elliott III, of Toledo, Ohio and Mary Reitbauer of Bethlehem, along with eight loving grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the many friends and relatives who befriended and comforted Jake during his illness. We especially give thanks to the staff of the Bethlehem YMCA Adult Day Care Center who kept him mentally active and vibrant during these past difficult years. What they provided was very special tender loving care. Services: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Wesley United Methodist Church, Center Street, Bethlehem, where he was a member. The family will see friends immediately following the service, location to be announced. Contributions: The family requests that memorials be made to Mary Reitbauer, 47 E. Union Blvd., Bethlehem 18018.

Mary,

Our deepest sympathy to you and the family. I remember both your parents and how wonderful they were to my sister and me. Your Dad was a lovable man a quite a trooper. May you find some comfort knowing he is very happy in heaven with your mother.
