Jon walked so closely with Christ that we saw Jesus through his love for others. May we all try to live like Jon did. Lift up the hurting, the lonely, the outcast! Bring love and light into this world that others may see God at work through us! We grieve, but we also remember the good things and celebrate Jon's legacy. He was real, he was hilarious, he knew how to get people to let down their walls and connect with each other... I loved him and I am challenged now to try to live more like he did. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Steph, I love you and I will be here for you the way Jon would want me to be.

To the entire Stahler Family, may God be with all of you and with Jon. You are in my prayers.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Dear Steph, Katie and Jonathan,
We are saddened and heartbroken and have been praying for you. We remember Jon's smile, his kindness, and how he made us laugh. We were blessed to share many child rearing moments (Lamaze, coordinated birthday parties, sleepovers) together with you; and how NaNa and PopPop included us in their extended umbrella of love. We pray that the Lord's love be with you all and we look forward to the hope and the day that we will meet Jon again.

Dear Stephanie. I am sorry to hear of Jonathan's passing. My dad Tom Legg worked for Ben for more than 30 years and knew the family very well. I am not sure if you remember him or not, but he was sadden when he heard the news. My dad does not have access to a computer but will be very happy that I wrote something to let you know that my family are keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers through this difficult time for you. My dad as remembering Jonathan had nothing but good things to say. I am not sure who will read this but I know if Tim and Jim Cotter reads this they will know who my dad is. I just wanted all the family to know that here in Utica you are all in our thoughts. Please take care of yourself. Fran (Legg) Lyons

Steph,
I will let the words of this verse speak for themselves: Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weaknesses. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with wordless groans.

I graduated Stony Brook in 1976 but worked for the school in 1984 as Buddy Pierce's tutor. Buddy suffered a spinal cord injury in 1983 while playing football and was paralyzed from the neck down. Buddy came back to Stony Brook as a junior in the fall of 1984 and lived down the hall from Jon. Jon stopped by Buddy's room nightly to check on Buddy and see if he needed anything. Jon was one of those students who is just naturally cool without even trying to be, and I always felt that he set the tone in the dormitory that it was the most natural thing in the world for Buddy to be back at school. I talked to Bill Blocker last night about this and he said he can still see Jon, pushing Buddy in his wheelchair, racing around campus with the two of them laughing. I have often wondered if Jon knew how crucial a role he played in Buddy's success at the school and how great a role model he provided for the other students on campus. Looking back, I realize how much I admired and appreciated Jon, and I still find myself marveling at his maturity and grace at such a young age. The world is a much poorer place.

I remember Jonathan from SBS. He was always a character. Funny funny funny. In the middle of winter he would go to swimming practice from the dorm with a towel bermuda shorts at a t-shirt. Dear Stephanie, Katie and Jonathan,
We were all so sad to hear about our cousin this morning from our father. We have great memories of visiting Jonathan whenever we were in NY. He was always so kind to each one of us, especially since he was a big, handsome teenager and we were all elementary age. So nice.
Our parents are planning to attend tomorrow's service but the rest of us can't get away from the store.
But please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers.
Best regards,

I only met Jonathan a handful of times. I will always remember Jonathan's great sense of humor & kindness. Many years ago I was trying to find the Fisher Camp at White Lake for one of our Cotter Family reunions there. I was lost, so I went in the Stumble Inn for help. Jonathan came up to me and said "Aren't you Jim's sister?" I was so happy to see him. He then guided me to camp. He did not really know me but helped me find my way.
