Joseph M. DeMatteo, 65, of Maxatawny Township, died Thursday, December 3, 2009, of Natural Causes in the Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Ethel M. (Wertz) DeMatteo to whom we was married for 42 years. Born April 10, 1944, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Fiorindo Beauty L. DeMatteo and Lucy M. (Luckenbill) DeMatteo, Topton. He was a 1962 graduate of Kutztown High School and a 1966 graduate of Kutztown Teachers College. He was a 6th grade teacher for the Boyertown School District for 33 years until his retirement in 1999. Following retirement he worked as a delivery associate for NAPA, Kutztown. He was a founding member of the East Penn Chargers Football Team; a member of the Kutztown Historical Society; and enjoyed playing high school baseball and later slow pitch softball for Fleetwood Chiropractic. He also bowled in the Thursday Night Bowling League at the Kutztown Fire Co. for many years. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Kutztown, the Kutztown Rod and Gun Club, and the Pikeville Sportsman Association. Survivors: Wife; mother; daughters, Christina M., wife of Thomas Luckenbill, Kutztown, Marcie L., wife of Michael Miller, Fleetwood; sister, Louise M. DeMatteo, Topton; three grandsons, Tyler and Jarad Luckenbill and Reese Miller. Services: Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 7, 2009, at 10 a.m., from St. Pauls United Church of Christ 47. S. Whiteoak St., Kutztown, PA 19530. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Sunday, December 6, 2009, from 6-8 p.m.and Monday, from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
