Micheal, it's been too long. I miss you as much now as I did back then. I shared my secrets and soul with you and you passed no judgment. I still talk to you pretty much on a daily basis and wait for your answer. Talk with you in my dreams. I truly hope that you and Gale are happy in your afterlife. Love you both.

As a philosophy major, I attended two classes taught by Michael at UCSD in 2002. He turned out being my favorite of all professors. His sense of humor in and out of the classroom was golden. My very first philosophy class I approached with great trepidation. I read the first assigned reading and was a bit confused. Thought I may have been over my head. Michael's first words were, "What the heck is this guy talking about?!" It completely and forever broke my apprehension! I went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa and Magna cum Laude. I credit my accomplishment to that sentence and many subsequent conversations with him. I knew his wife Gale as well, who was an absolute sweetheart. They were lucky, and meant, to have found each other. My life is all the better for having known them both. Here's to you Michael and Gale! You'll always fondly be remembered.

Michael, it's been a few years since you left us. I still miss you like it was yesterday. I hope that you and Gale are on top of the world. Of anyone I know, Michael, you and Gale are the only people who have that spot in my heart. I will always remember you both.

Michael was a brilliant teacher. I return to his lessons even now, many years after my graduation from Lehigh. Michael was also deeply kind and caring. I miss him.

Dear Michael..... I had no idea you were gone until I wished you a Happy Birthday on your Facebook. My reaction is relief, you are now with Gale again, you two had a love story like no other couple I know. I was blessed to have Gale in my life 35 years, and you for 30. Thank you for being the best husband ever to one of my very sweetest friends. I pray that you Rest in Peace.

I had Dr. Mendelson for one of my courses (as a philosophy minor), and admired his keen intellect, that wit (which all these later I still remember), and his down to earth nature with his classes. He was so approachable, and helpful with truly diving deeply into the texts. He was one of those who not only had a strong influence on me then, but even to this moment where I too am a college instructor. His wife's illness was known of, but more through his intense commitment to her than because he would disclose. I am truly saddened to here of his passing, and send my deepest sympathies to his family, and to his Lehigh colleagues. You all lost a great individual, and one who left an impact with his students.
