Peter Shaffer Obituary
Peter L. Shaffer, 59, of Allentown, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family on Tuesday, August 31, 2010. He was the husband of Sylvia A. (Calaman) Shaffer, and they celebrated 36 years of marriage in July. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Russel K. and Margaret J. (Ritter) Shaffer. Peter was a successful Certified Public Accountant and owner of Shaffer & Associates CPAs for 35 years. He was also the Lehigh County Controller from 2000 to 2008. Peter received his Accounting Degree from Drexel University in 1974 and a Masters Degree in Taxation from Villanova University in 1980. Peter was a member of the L.V. Chapter of Certified Public Accountants, the PICPA and the AICPA. He was a lifetime member of the Allentown Sertoma Club and an active participant in Le Tip of the Lehigh Valley. Peter was a board member of the L.V. Conservative Voice and dedicated to Lehigh County Republican politics. He was a founding member and Board Director of the former East Penn Bank. Peter was a member of Christ E.C. Church, Allentown. Survivors: Wife; son, Andrew L. and his wife, Courtney M., of Baltimore, MD; daughters, Susan L. Shaffer of Allentown, Audrey L. Shaffer of Harvey Cedars, NJ; sister, Nina J. and her husband, James S. Pauloski, of Allentown. Peter will be missed by his beloved dogs, Marlin, and Whaler, and his parrots, Taco, and Chico. Services: A tribute to honor Peters life will be held on Friday, September 10, at 10 a.m. at the Scottish Rite Center, 1544 Hamilton St., with a reception following the service. Dear Sylvia, Andrew, Susan and Audrey
I just heard of Peter's passing and am so sorry for your loss. Having lost my husband of 45 years only 9 months ago, I definitely understand what you are all going through. Peter was so fortunate to have such a loving, dedicated family and as I know, he was just as loving and dedicated to all of you. He always had such a friendly demeanor and that is how I will remember him best. He will be missed by all of us. But we know that he is in a better place. It is we who grieve and miss our loved ones and have to go on without them. God be with you, as I know he will because He is a protector of the widows and orphans. Let us comfort one another with those promises.

Sylvia and Family, We were shocked to hear about Peter from Jamie at Norma J's but wanted you to know that we will be praying for you and your loved ones. We are so sad to hear of Peter's passing. As clients, we have put our trust in him for more than fifteen years. He was unfaltering in his professionalism and devotion to family, business and the community. Peter stood behind his beliefs and reached out to others. Please accept my deepest condolences. Pete was a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of meeting him in his office at the county when I would stop in to visit my friend and a cousin who worked for him. I subsequently would see and talk with him at Republican functions and I'd always enjoy when we did. I'm sorry that you've lost him when he was so young.
