Raymond Schroeder
Raymond Schroeder, 87, of Phillipsburg, N.J., passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2008 in his home. He was the husband of the former Norma F. Gordon. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 5, 2008. Born October 25, 1921 in Totowa, N.J., he was the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Young) Schroeder. He has lived in Phillipsburg for seven years. Before that, he lived in Paterson, N.J. A baker, at one time Raymond owned Schroeder Bakery, Pequanock, N.J. Later he worked at Nees Baker, Riverdale, N.J. and lastly he worked at Bragones Baker, Paterson, until retiring. He was a member of Paterson Avenue United Methodist Church. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg. He was a member and past commander of Raymond Pellington American Legion Post 77, Paterson. He graduated from Passaic (N.J.) Valley High School, class of 1939. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a baker first class, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Survivors: Wife; son, Raymond Schroeder and his wife, Michelle, of Kihei, Maui, Hawaii; daughter, Marilyn E. Augis and her husband, Joseph, of Allentown; brothers, William Schroeder of South Newbury, N.H., Warren Schroeder of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandchildren, Ryan Oldenhage, Kristin Daigle; two great-grandsons, Cole and Cooper Daigle. A brother, John Schroeder, and a sister, Lillian Burkhardt, died earlier. Services: will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Rupell Funeral Home L.L.C., 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg. Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Laurel Grove Cemetery, 295 Totowa Road, Totowa, N.J. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 532 Lafayette Road, Sparta, NJ 07871.

I will miss my many talks about the Navy with Ray. His eyes would just light up when the Navy was mentioned!
