Robert Dunnigan Obituary

Robert A. Dunnigan, 85, of Bethlehem passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023. On this day, our Lord took Mr. Bob into Heaven to watch over his children. He was born on November 5, 1937 in Baltimore, Md, in East Baltimore section of Canton. He was the son of the late Genevieve (Pisarek) and Charles Dunnigan. Robert was the loving husband of the late Bernadine A. (Laslo) Dunnigan.

Bob attended St. Brigid's School and was awarded a scholarship to play basketball and football at Mt. St. Joe in Baltimore. After graduation, he started his career at Bethlehem Steel and retired from Durkees Foods. After retiring, for 13 years, Mr. Bob became a well-respected and loved crossing guard in Bethlehem, mainly at Spring Garden Elementary School. Mr. Bob also spent a year and a half as a bus monitor for BASD. He proudly served in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Platoon Sergeant. Mr. Bob was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where he enjoyed being an usher.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Michael Dunnigan and Mark Dunnigan; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Francis Dunnigan.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in the Church. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

Mr. Bob -a friend, a mentor, the nicest man I ever knew. We worked many events together at Spring Garden Elementary School. He was always smiling, controlled the crosswalks like a pro, and truly loved the students. Both of my kids loved him, especially when he would call bingo numbers at our yearly Spring event. Thanks for all of the memories. You will be sadly missed, my friend.
