Robert J. Hilbert
Robert J. Hilbert, 81, of Whiting, N.J., formerly of Mendham, N.J., died peacefully Friday, November 14, 2008, after a short illness. Born in Meyersville, N.J., he lived most of his life in Meyersville and Mendham before moving to Whiting two and a half years ago. He was a graduate of Morristown High School, class of 1945. After graduating, he enlisted and served in World War II with the Armys 82nd Airborne Division. He was employed by Jersey Central Power & Light Company for 40 years, starting as a linesman and retiring as a superintendent. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting in the Great Swamp and in New York with his son, Bob. He was proud of his deer trophies and especially proud of the wild turkey he shot in New York. He enjoyed digging and collecting antique bottles, amassing a collection of over 2,000. After retiring, he spent endless hours gardening, antique hunting, and caring for his fruit and vegetable stand in Mendham. Survivors: Children, Nila and Joseph Sodano of Green Village, Robert Hilbert and Sandy Teresi of Manahawkin, Traci Hilbert of Easton, Derenda Hilbert; four grandchildren, Jody and Jamie Sodano, Jake and Laura Hilbert; twin sister, Lorraine Bernard of Providence, R.I. He was predeceased by his brother, Russell, and sister, Ruth Fullagar. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Green Village United Methodist Church, 500 Spring Valley Rd., Green Village, N.J. Family and friends are welcome to attend the service. Arrangements, Thomas L. Shinn Funeral Home, Manahawkin. Contributions: Can be made to Green Village United Methodist Church, NJ 07935 in his memory.

So sorry to read about Bob's passing, he was such a wonderful person. I remember using his pool often (ok, every day) as a child in Mendham. Wish I had gotten to see him again now that I am an adult.
