Ronald Lehr Obituary

Ronald C. Lehr, 90, of Bethlehem, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at his home. Born May 21, 1933, in Nazareth, he was the son of the late Charles and Gladys Heckman Lehr. Ron married the former Catherine Grube in 1957, and together they celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2013.

He graduated from Nazareth high school in 1951. He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corp. from that year until he retired in 1995. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed throughout the US and Guam.

Ron's primary interest was car racing. A dream came true when he rode in the back seat of a race car at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He also loved being around water and enjoyed swimming, annual vacations in Wildwood NJ, cruising or just sitting by the creek. He liked traveling and took many road trips to see historical sites, national landmarks, and car races. Travel with his family to Australia and Europe were trips of a lifetime.

Ron was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Dryland United Church of Christ, Nazareth, where he served on the consistory and outdoor facilities team.

He is survived by twin daughters, Roxanne Lehr (James Herrick) of Lancaster, and Robin Berry (Richard) of Belvidere, NJ; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Lehr; grandsons, Jason and Ryan Lehr; sister, Darlene Peters (Mitchell); nephew, Mitchell Peters (Jamie Washburn); other nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Ronald C. Lehr, Jr.

Services will be held on Thursday, February 1, at Dryland UCC, 4415 Newburg Rd, Nazareth, PA 18064 with a viewing beginning at 10:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Altona Cemetery, Bethlehem.

The family would like to thank friends Katie Farrugia and Jan Stever for all their love and support and the hospice nurses and PCAs for their dedicated care.

Contributions, in memory of Ronald, may be offered directly to the church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Schmidt Funeral home, 407 Belvidere St, Nazareth. Please visit Ronald's Tribute page at https://www.schmidtfuneralhomepc.com

The entire Nazareth High School Class of 1951 express their condolences and deep sympathy to the Lehr family, relatives and friends. Although Ron was quiet in school, we remember him... How many of us loved car racing in those days as Ron did? May our classmate, Ron, forever rest in peace...

It was a pleasure to know Ron from church. It was also a sweet surprise to know he and his wife had continued to love Gypsy as I and my children did. Well done faithful servant.
