Ronald Lundberg Obituary

Lundberg, Ronald M.Ronald M. Lundberg, 72, of Macungie, formerly of Carmel, NY, passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2014 surrounded by his devoted family. He was the loving husband of Barbara J. (Nyce) Lundberg, and they celebrated their 49th anniversary in June. Ron was a much beloved middle school teacher in Yorktown Heights, NY for 40 years until retiring in 2003. He was a born educator and many of his former students have remained in contact with him over the years, which brought great joy to him knowing that he had played a part in their success in life. Born in the Bronx, NY, Ron was the son of the late Edwin and Marjorie (Whitehead) Lundberg. In 1952, his family moved from New Rochelle, NY to Carmel where he graduated in 1959 from Carmel High School. Ron earned a Bachelor's Degree at SUNY Oneonta, NY and received his Master's Degree from SUNY New Paltz, NY. While a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Kisco, NY, in addition to being very active in the music program there, he was instrumental in the installation of a von Beckerath pipe organ. After moving to Macungie in 2010, he became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, PA where he was also very active in the Chancel Choir and music program. In addition, Ron taught English and Citizenship courses to Burmese refugees there. His work with them was very rewarding to him and greatly appreciated by the refugees, many of whom became Ron's friends and have become American citizens as a result of his tutelage. Ron deeply valued friendships and made many long-lasting relationships over the years. He will be deeply missed by his family and his large circle of close friends. We will especially miss his love of family, deep faith, generous spirit, larger than life personality, sense of humor, laughter, concern for others, his great love of music, and extreme delight in hosting dinner parties for which he was the "chef extraordinaire." Survivors: Include his wife; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer Lundberg and Dominick Martiniello of Airmont, NY; son and daughter-in-law Jeremy and Christina Lundberg of Lovettsville, VA; brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Lenore Lundberg of Carmel, NY; and six grandchildren: Anders Lewis, Matilda Lewis, Emily Martiniello, Dominick Martiniello, Holden Lundberg and Siena Lundberg. Services: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11 AM in the Sanctuary at the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, 3231 W. Tilghman St. Allentown Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Organ Fund at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, 3231 W. Tilghman St., Allentown, PA 18104, or to the Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2166 S. 12th St., Allentown, PA 18103.

I've just happened across this memorial page eleven years after. I was friends with Ron and Barbara back in our Putnam Chorale days in Carmel. Ron and I sang tenor and used to enjoy cracking each other up, kibitzing in the back row at rehearsals. We'd fallen out of touch over the years, as well as my moving to New Mexico. I very much enjoyed Ron's company and will always think of him, and his sense of humor, fondly.

To the Lundberg family,
I am deeply saddened to learn of Ron's passing. While Ron was not actually my six grade teacher (I was in the class next door) he was my tutor for many years. Growing up I never considered college as school was always a struggle for me. But Ron believed in me, prepared me, helped me get accepted and I graduated four years later with a double-major. Today I run a small company. My own son goes to Temple University in Philadelphia. I had the great pleasure of being able to reconnect with Ron over the years and for a while we had dinner together once a year. We loved to talk about our families, books and politics over a bottle (or two) of wine. Unfortunately I allowed us to lose touch in the last five years. Although I thought of Ron frequently I deeply regret not reaching out again. Ron was my tutor, and later my friend. His influence on my life will last for generations to come as will his impact on so many others. What a wonderful legacy. He was truly a beautiful soul. All my love, Bryan Reilly

So saddened by this news. Ron was a colleague and a delight to work with. He was my son's sixth grade teacher and I credit Ron with giving Scott the confidence to move on to the middle school. Ron will be remembered fondly and missed by many.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Lundberg family. I was a student of Ron's in 1985-1986 at Mildred E. Strang Middle School in Yorktown Heights, NY. He made a lasting and positive impact on my education and I always recall him with fond memories. We tracked Halley's Comet that year, created TIME magazines on a country of our choice and had countless laughs with a great teacher, mentor and friend. God Bless.
