I, unfortunately, never got the opportunity to know Shawn very well. I am a neighbor (across the street). Shawn and I always seemed to be out doing some choir around our property. These days, neighbors do not go out of their way to say hello or offer a helping hand. One day I was very challenged with some of the work I was attempting (to say the least). Shawn stopped what he was doing and simply walked over and lent a helping hand. We would have conversations across our properties and Shawn was armed with very helpful advice/tips.
I am so sorry to the Jewell family and the tremendous loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Shawn's Famiy:
We consider ourselves privledged in life for just knowing Shawn. We came to know Shawn through a working relationship, when he worked for J.T. Baker and later when he worked with us at Gordon Bennett Painting.
A working relationship soon turned into a friendship, because it was hard to know Shawn and not want to be friends with him. He made that part so easy.
He knew everything, or if he didn't, he made you think he did. That was what was so easy about him. My husband would often call him just to ask him some kind of question, and he always had and an answer and the time.
He was always on some kind of great adventure and living his life to the fullest. We would here so many stories when he was at our house, he was quick to share them. It was always about his family, always something new they did, exciting, and probably too scary for most of us to even try.
During Hurricane Sandy he came over to our house and hooked up our electric box so we could run our generator. To think he even went out during that storm was the kind of person he was. He was a lifesaver that week. During Hurricane Irene, he came and cut down trees. He never stayed long, because as soon as he finished, off he went to the next person who needed his help.
During this last week, my husband and I reflected on how long we have had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful, kindhearted, friendly young gentleman, with a killer smirk, and you know what we came up with - not long enough. For his young life was taken from all of us - all too soon.
But he loved life and I am sure that is the way he would want all of us to remember him, and we will.
For his wife and little girl, may you find his strengh in the days ahead, and to his parents and siblings, may you always remember his smile. May all of you know that he has climbed that highest mountain and will always be there looking over you.
Shawn we will truly miss you,
God Bless,
Oogie and Linda Frey

Dear Jewell family,
I was a college roommate of Heather Beth's and during my stay with you one weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting Shawn. I am so sorry to hear of this terrible accident. You all are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time and in the times ahead. May you find comfort in each other and in memories of your dear Shawn. My heart breaks for you all, but especially for his daughter.
With my most sincere condolences,

As we find our way through life, some of the many people that we meet touch us in special ways. But only a very few have the ability to impart a bit of themselves onto us. Shawn was one such person. He had a confidence that was inspirational and a smile that was infectious. There was so much that I learned from him. He gave me confidence to take on things that I never thought that I could do. When there are times that challenges arise, I often ask myself, "what would Shawn do?" Amazingly the answer always becomes quite clear. His can-do attitude will forever be an inspiration.
