Stephen Hammel Obituary

Stephen E. Hammel, 85, of Whitehall died Saturday, September 29, in the VNA of St Lukes Hospice House Lower Saucon Township. Stephen was the husband of Rosalie (Reinhardt) Hammel. Born January 13, 1927 in Northampton, he was the son of the late Stephan P., and Anna (Betz) Hammel. Stephen worked for American General Life Insurance Company in Allentown for many years. He was a 1944 graduate of Easton High School and attended a Business College in Up State New York before proudly serving in the United States Army and Air Force. He was an avid golfer and bowler, receiving many awards for both. Stephen was a longtime Phillies fan. Survivors: Besides his wife, daughter, Linda, wife of Dennis Rauch, of Allentown; grandson, Justin Rauch, of Breinigsville; brother, Joseph Hammel and his wife Bernice, of Williamsburg, VA; sisters, Marie, wife of Leon Kelby, of Allentown, Loretta Hovanec, of Yardley; 20 nieces and nephews. Stephen was predeceased by his beloved sister, Elizabeth Betty Stanford and brothers, Alfred Hammel and Paul Hammel. Services: A memorial Service will be Thursday, October 4, at 10:30 a.m., in the Nativity Lutheran Church 4004 Tilghman St. Allentown. Family and friends may call Thursday, 10 to 10:30 a.m., in the Church. Burial Services with military honors will follow in the Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery, Northampton. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be presented to the VNA of St. Lukes Hospice House or the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Reichel Funeral Home Northampton.
