Thomas Conlon

Thomas Conlon, 89, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2023, while in the care of Kirkland Village. He was the loving husband of the late Sheila A. (Sweeny) Conlon, who passed away on November 21, 2021. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Patrick and Ethel (Marston) Conlon. Tom attended La Salle Academy High School and Manhattan College, Riverdale NY. He formed a chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, the national service fraternity, on campus. Tom graduated in 1955 with a degree in Civil Engineering and major in Environmental Engineering. He began his career as a Public Health Engineer for the New Jersey Dept. of Health. He later came to Bethlehem Steel as a Research Engineer and then transferred to Industrial Health Engineering, Industrial Relations Dept. Tom represented Bethlehem Steel on the ASI Environmental Committee and as chairman of the PA Chamber of Commerce's Environmental Committee. He was active in community affairs as chairman of the Northampton County Conservation District, a Bethlehem Jaycees director, and president of the Gov. Wolf Elementary School PTA. When Bethlehem Steel began to downsize, Tom joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Region Ill office in Philadelphia, Water Management Div. in 1983 and managed the drinking water enforcement program. In retirement, Tom and his wife Sheila settled in Four Seasons at Saucon Valley in 1999 where he was editor of the community's newsletter and participated in many activities. The couple then moved to Kirkland Village in 2013 and they both continued to be very active in community life.

SURVIVORS: He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Kathleen M. Hozza and husband David of State College and Cynthia A. Kilmer and husband James of Arlington, VA and his four loving grandchildren Caroline, Emily, Scott and Evan.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 450 E. Washington Ave, Bethlehem, PA 18017, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 A.M. until time of the Mass in the church. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
