Hertzog, Sr., Walter R.Walter R. Hertzog, Sr., of Bethlehem, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 in St. Luke's Hospice House, Lower Saucon Twp. He was the husband of June Hertzog who passed away in 2000. Born in Upper Milford Twp. on November 21, 1927, he was a son of the late Richard and Florence (Naugle) Hertzog. Walter last worked at Bonnie Forge. Previously, he was a truck driver for various companies. He was in the US Navy, serving in Guam during WW II. He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal. Walter loved to play baseball and played for the Lycoming Dairy during the early years of Little League in Williamsport, PA. Walter was a good artist. He drew the picture cover for the first school magazine "The Stevens" in Williamsport and the school seal. Survivors: Companion: Dolores Wessner; Daughter: Diana Beck of Allentown; Sons: Richard Hertzog of Allentown, David Hertzog of Albrightsville; Sister: Catherine Blanchard of So. Williamsport; Grandchildren: 6; Great-grandchildren: 15; Great great-grandchildren: 5; Sister-In-Law: Bernice Kincaid; Nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his son Walter Hertzog, Jr., half-brother Charles Hertzog, and half-sister Dorothy Thornburgh. Services: 3:00 pm Thursday, Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 1335 Linden St., Allentown. Call 2 - 3 pm Thursday in the funeral home. www.stephensfuneral.com. Dear Dad it is going on 10 years now since you have crossed the pearly gates and not a day goes by you and the entire family are not in my thoughts. Funny how you knew I would need things left behind and purchased for my future use. I am still finding things I need and use when I least expect it. I look to the sky and say thanks dad. How did you know I would need this? I know you were a fighter and giving up was not in your vocabulary. Then came the day God called you home and I am honored to say I could be there for your calling. I know you are looking down upon us and at times sense your presence . I look forward to the day where we can all meet again at the gates to heaven. You along with the entire family called before us are sadly missed. Your loving son....David

Dear Dad. There is not a day gone by that I don't look at your picture mom's brothers Walt and Richard. It has been 8 years now since you crossed into the pearly gates. It almost seems like yesterday. I know you are up there looking down upon sister and I and keep watch as parents still. There are days I can feel your presence. Our remaining family misses our picnics and get together on holidays. There is a void as there are quite a few missing seats. I know you are up there with Marcy and Paul who have always left a lasting impression on my childhood, I also know there is peace in the valley, and I will continue to sign in each year to let you all know how sadly you are missed. Love you dad and mom. The memories are priceless and always carried within my heart. Love always and until we meet again. Your Son David

Its coming up on another season and another year dad since your loss. Your pictures of You Mom Rick and Butch still sit on my fireplace as a lasting memory. As I grow older in years since your loss I realize all the sacrifices both you and mom made for us. You are missed and there are times I wish you were present just one more time. Dad it has been 6 years since your passing and there is not a day gone by I do not think of you and mom and how aspiring and influential you both have been in my life. Each day I realize that if it were not for your unselfish efforts when experiencing tough roads in my life..I may not be the person I am today...alive and well and very blessed by god in my life. You knew I would be ok as I had to accept I was loosing the best friend in my life. You were always giving of yourself and never once thought of yourself before others. You are always in all our hearts and pray you are at rest with Mom Butch Rick Grandmother Grandfather and Marcy and Paul. I miss our family get togethers but hold them fondly within my heart. Until we meet again across that rainbow path..continue to keep watch over me as I always sense your presence in my life. I know your spirit walks with me

Dear Dad...There is not a day gone by you are not thought of in one way or another. God called you home too soon to say all the things I wanted to say. Your conversation with me that a dad could never ask for a better son resonates with me each and every day. I think about the things that went wrong and realize today you and mom did the best you could during hard times. It was those times that make me the person I am today and make me proud to call you dad. I think about our times together as though they were yesterday. I look forward to my day of calling when we all can meet again as family and become one family again in God's kingdom. You are sadly missed...your son David
