James Ledford Obituary
July 17, 1931 - January 28, 2021
James Lee Ledford Sr., 89, of Nebo, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at Autumn Care of Marion.
Mr. Ledford was born July 17, 1931, in Mitchell County, to the late Troy Ledford and Lissie Pitman Ledford. He was veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of New Manna Baptist Church. Mr. Ledford worked as a truck driver for Ethan Allen for over 25 years until his retirement. He was known, by his many truck driver friends, by his handle "Pilgrim". His favorite past-times were gardening, and studying his Bible.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anna Jean Greene Ledford; three children, Debra Ledford, Peggy Ledford and Troy M. Ledford; and three siblings, Josie Howell, Joan Ledford and Jim Ledford and his wife, Violet.
Those left behind to cherish Mr. Ledford's memory are two children, Rita Hensley and James Lee Ledford Jr. both of the home; four grandchildren, Sam Ledford (Adrienne), Alisha Ledford, Marvin Hensley and Kim Hensley (Paul); five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Judie Barker (Ron), Jennie Burns and Joyce Pittman.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31, at New Manna Baptist Church. A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Ledford's life will follow at 3 p.m., at the church with the Rev. Tony Shirley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Spruce Pine.
