Donald Coppock Obituary

Donald William Coppock, age 68, of Marietta, passed away on September 18, 2025 surrounded by his family as they shared memories of his life. Donald was born on June 28, 1957 in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Huey and Essie Coppock, their third child and the baby of the family. He grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, from the age of 1 in the house his father designed and his mother lived in until into her 90s. He grew up playing in the neighborhood with his siblings and friends; participating in the youth ministry at First Baptist Church; and enjoyed playing sports, including high school baseball, throughout his school years. After graduating Grissom High School in 1975, Donald followed in his father's footsteps as a student of engineering at Auburn University where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order alongside his brother. A lifelong Auburn and football fan, Donald enjoyed cheering on the Tigers at games as long as he was able, and watching from home. He built a respected career as an engineer with ITT Industries Gould's Pumps where he built long-standing relationships in more than 40 years with the company. On October 11, 1986, Donald married the love of his life, Carol Ann Gregg. As her best friend's dad said, "Carol used up all her luck when she met Donald." They welcomed a baby girl Amanda in 1989 and built a beautiful life as a family of three (plus many beloved pets over the years) in Hoover, Alabama, until moving to Marietta, Georgia, in 2019 to be closer to Amanda and her husband as they began growing their family. Above all, Donald was a dear husband, father and "Papi" to Jackson (5) and Harrison (3). He loved hearing their enthusiastic stories and watching them play and learn. Donald is survived by his wife of nearly 39 years, Carol; his only daughter Amanda (Jonathan); his two grandsons Jackson and Harrison; and his sister Linda Luckett (Larry) and brother Ronnie Coppock (Ann Elizabeth). He was preceded in death by his father Huey William Coppock and mother Essie Martin Coppock, as well as beloved extended family members, including his sister-in-law Sharon Coppock, the late wife of his brother Ronnie. Donald's family remembers him as the rock that they all leaned on. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his calm strength, dependability and the joy he brought to every life he touched. A celebration of Donald's life will be held on Sunday, October 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Marietta First United Methodist Church. Friends are invited to share stories and memories at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS.org) or Marietta First United Methodist Church (mariettafumc.org).
