Martin Morris Obituary

Martin Matthew Morris, age 81, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. Son of the late Martin Morris Sr and Mary Wiley, Martin was born on August 9th, 1943 in Lynchburg, Virginia. While attending E. C. Glass High School, he met his future wife, Gail McMillen. Throughout High School, he had many accomplishments such as being State Champion in 1959, State Runner-Up in 1961, and an All-State Basketball Player. Martin was later inducted into the E.C. Glass Basketball Hall of Fame. Martin attended the College of William & Mary and he was on the Basketball team and served as Class President. Martin was later inducted into the William & Mary Basketball Hall of Fame. On April 12, 1965, he married the love of his life, Gail McMillen.

Martin loved sports, which led him to coaching at the University of Richmond before being promoted to Head Coach at Ferrum Junior College. Shortly thereafter, he transferred to the University of Tennessee as an Assistant Coach for four years. From there, Martin worked at Williams Industrial Painting until 1978.

In 1978, Martin Morris helped found MOPAC, a regional plant and building services company, with corporate offices in Atlanta, Georgia.

Martin has contributed to advancements in the asset management industry through participation in several professional associations. He has co-authored manuals and authored papers for the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry. He also served as Technical Program Chairman and Chairman of the Asset Management Committee.

Martin took charge of the Community leadership role as a member of the Board of Advisors for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce where he was active in the Atlanta Partners for Education Program with the Atlanta Public Schools. MOPAC has provided community services and materials for homes built under the auspices of Habitat for Humanity.

A Memorial Service to honor Mr. Martin M. Morris Jr. will be held on December 22, 2024, at 1:00pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3003 Howell Mill Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.

Mr. Morris is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gail Morris; son, Bryan Morrisand his wife Andrea; daughter, Meade Conley and her husband Cale; eight grandchildren, Cole Morris, Josephine Conley, Harrison Morris, Logan Morris, Mary Sellers Conley, Aubrey Morris, Evelyn Conley, and Mills Conley and extended family members and friends to cherish his legacy.
