Steven Bass Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven (Steve) Francis Bass, 72, of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Marietta, Georgia, on October 22, 2024. Steve was born February 17, 1952, in Shelbyville, Tennessee to Corinne and Sion Bass.

Steve was a lifelong member of Powers Ferry Methodist Church and later joined Eastminster Presbyterian Church where he made many dear friends. Steve graduated from Wheeler High School in 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Administration with a minor in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University in 1973 followed by a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management in 1975. He later continued his education with a Masters in Business Administration in Aviation from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Steve was in Risk Management for Fireman's Fund for most of his professional life and later retired from Risk Consultants of America. His retirement marked the end of a fulfilling career and the beginning of new adventures.

Steve was an avid Tennessee Vols fan with a deep passion for aviation, proudly earning his pilot's license. He found joy in the outdoors, whether cycling, playing tennis, or competing in a game of pickleball. Steve's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, cherished for his friendship, kindness, witty sense of humor, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Corinne and Sion Bass. He is survived by his loving family including his sister, Judy Bass Rowe; his nieces: Melissa Rowe Bennett and husband, Loren; Ashley Rowe Randall and husband, Mark; his cousins: Patricia Simmons Hubbard and Rick Simmons; nine great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church of Marietta.

I knew Steve from Eastminster Pres. He was a faithful and encouraging brother in the Lord. During his challenges with his heart condition (and the occasional Tennessee Vols football loss), I never once heard him complain. He was a role model for the word "steadfast." Now he rests in peace and my memories of him encourage me still.

Steve was a genuinely good guy. I first met him at Weatherstone tennis, where he was consistently friendly and in good spirits. He always had a good time, no matter what. He was ready to hear or share a good story, especially a funny one. Steve never failed to do his part and then some, helping organize tennis and pickleball games. He was a big-time Tennessee fan, wearing orange proudly and often. He was generous, kind and ready to help out, if anyone had a health or family problem. He enjoyed his tennis buddies, neighbors, and church friends. He loved his family and could not wait to move to Texas and be with them more. He often helped those in need, especially wounded veterans. Even when his health problems became quite serious and difficult for anyone to handle, he continued to enjoy life. He stayed hopeful and grateful for the life he had. I will miss him.

My first experience with Steve was remodeling his Marietta home after he had inherited it. After that, I did many more projects for Steve throughout the years. It never felt like business with Steve, it just felt like I was working on my buddies house. I´ve always described Steve as the best customer I´ve ever had. We would occasionally go get lunch together when I was in the area, even if we weren´t working on a project for him at the time. Frankly, I learned a lot from Steve. He was a calm man that always had a "happy to be here" attitude. He didn´t sweat the little things. In all the years I knew Steve I cannot recall a single unpleasant experience. I will deeply miss my friend Steve. What a guy.

We enjoyed having Steve as our neighbor for the last few years especially as we hunkered down during the pandemic, sharing stories, and having a laugh during uncertain times.
He had a great sense of humor and was always kind and respectful toward others.
Steve had a realistic view of life and took its challenges in stride with grace and gratitude,
He will be sorely missed.
Rest well, my friend.
