Zachary Scott Obituary

Zachary Winfield Scott, Sr., affectionately known as "Zac," passed away on October 3, 2025, in Dallas, Georgia, at the age of 77. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Macland Chapel of Mayes Ward Dobbins on Saturday, October 11th at 3:00 PM, with visitation from 2:00 PM until the hour of the service. He was born on April 8, 1948, in Columbus, Georgia, the youngest of 16 children, and throughout his life became a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Zac Scott was a man who loved fiercely and always had a smile and a story for everyone he met. To him, no one was a stranger. He lived his life as a true celebration of his faith, and his years were filled with experiences worth honoring and remembering. One of Zac's lifelong passions was bowling. What began as a job at 16 grew into a way for him to give back, as he later dedicated his time and energy to working with the Special Olympics. Through this, Zac shared not only his love of the game but also his heart, encouraging athletes and celebrating their achievements with the same joy and pride he carried in all aspects of his life. Zac also had a deep love of words and music. He wrote poetry and songs that reflected his heart, his faith, and his view of the world. It was a great honor for him to share his gift of singing with special music, which brought comfort and inspiration to those around him. He was most proud of his family, cherishing his role as a father to Toni, Zackie, Mick, and Dougie. He was also a devoted grandfather to ten and great-grandfather to many. His love was steadfast, his advice practical, and his humor could brighten even the toughest day. Zac's legacy is one of faith, creativity, and generosity. He gave of himself freely, welcomed others with open arms, and showed by example what it meant to live fully and with gratitude. His laughter, wisdom, legendary chili, sweet potato souffle, and artistic spirit will live on in the lives of those he touched. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, his brother Carey, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Dora Scott, his son, Dougie Wilbur, and his grandson, Marshall Ervin.
