Donald Cheverette
March 3, 1930 - December 4, 2011
Donald Cheverette passed from this life on Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California after a short illness.  He was born on March 1, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to Chuck and Gertie Cheverette and moved to Los Banos in 1938.  He attended Los Banos Elementary and Los Banos High School.  He joined the U.S. Navy in 1949 and served on the USS Enterprise during the Korean War and Cuban conflict.  He retired from the Navy after 27 years as a Senior Chief Petty Officer.  Don continued to work for the Navy as an air traffic controller for several years.  He ended his working career at Hughes Aircraft in San Diego.  His family will miss his knowledge of the world, politics, and his great sense of humor.  He is survived by his three children, Donald Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, Linda Cheverette and Rex Cheverette of San Diego, three grandchildren, Shawn of San Diego, Pat, Tim Cheverette of Nashville, and one Great Grandchild, Chase Cheverette along with his sister La Verne (John) Forte of Los Banos.

Don and I first met when were stationed together at NAS Miramar during the mid to late 1960s. Later Don was my mentor when I reported to FCCSSA in 1974. He was truly a great friend. Rest well Senior Chief.
