DOUGLAS SOUHRADA Obituary

July 7, 1959 ~ July 10, 2009

Douglas A. Souhrada, 50, of Mead, died July 10, 2009.

Douglas was born July 7, 1959 in Stockton, California to Lawrence and Sara (Purvis) Souhrada. After graduating from Merced High School located in Merced, California, he achieved a B.S. in Criminology/Business Administration from California State University, Fresno in 1984 along with a B.S. in Electronic Engineering Technology from Hamilton Technical College in 2001.

Douglas married Elizabeth Stuedemann on June 3, 1989 in Davenport, Iowa where they made their home until 2003 when they were transferred to Cranberry Twp., PA. Then in 2007 they moved once again to Mead, CO.

He was employed as an Operation Manager at Prime Plating in Bettendorf, Iowa, he was then a Technical Service Representative in installation and tire retreading with Bandag/Bridgestone and most recently an Insurance Broker for Monarch-Kneis Insurance.

Douglas (aka Doug E. Fresh) enjoyed golf, spending time with his children, listening to smooth jazz, and AC/DC, which was by far his favorite band of all time. He loved watching Spongebob Squarepants with his daughters, and every football season he was always for the Pittsburgh Steelers!

Doug was always the type of person who wanted to make people laugh. He had a wonderful sense of humor and seemed to always be the prime source of comedy when it came to the children and their friends; there was not one person who didn't enjoy his company. He was a great and loving father who will never be forgotten.

Survivors include his wife Beth Souhrada and his three daughters, Alexandra (17), Abigail (16) and Allison (14), all of Mead; his parents Larry and Sara Souhrada of Atwater, California; his brother, Rick Souhrada and his wife, Kathy, and sister Kathy Conwell and her husband, David, both of Merced, California. Doug was also Uncle Dougie to 3 nephews and 2 grand nephews on his side of the family and 5 nephews and 4 nieces on Beth's side of the family.

Memorial Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15 at Longs Peak Church, 1601 Collyer Street, Longmont, CO. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Douglas Souhrada Memorial Fund for his daughters and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Share condolences at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com.

I remember being at the Souhradas when I was young as a step-child of the late Jerry Abbott. I remember the good times in Merced but most of all I remember the CHP and how they were all united. Dougie was my age and we use to play in the 60's. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected and a sincere blessing to the family, especially, Larry and Sara. Saddened to hear of Doug's passing. It made me reminisce about us running around town as kids on our Sting Ray bikes; and it seems even though his dad was a CHP officer we alway seemed to find a little trouble. I still remember Doug teaching me how to chew Red Man tobacco but failing to inform me not to swallow the juice, and consequently I threw up all over the front of my Sting Ray on the way home. The next time I play some ACDC I'll crank it up. God speed. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.
