Edward Dimsey Obituary

EDWARD RALPH DIMSEY
SEPTEMBER 1, 1948 - DECEMBER 17, 2015
Edward Ralph Dimsey, a longtime resident of Atwater, California, passed away onto his new life peacefully at the age of 67 in the presence of his family and close friends on December 17, 2015.  He was born to Harold and Dorothy Dimsey in Taunton, Massachusetts on Sept. 1, 1948.  Edward grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island, and attended Cranston High School.
Upon graduation he enlisted into the United States Air Force in which he served overseas in the Vietnam War as a Military Police Officer.  After completion of his tour of duty, Edward attended Merced College.  During his journey towards a path of educational perspective, he developed a timeless friendship with Dennis and Lois Cordova and the love of his life, Anna.
Edward and Anna were married on August 25, 1973.  They had two sons, Jason Dimsey (born Jan. 26, 1981) and Michael Dimsey (born March 4, 1983).
He retired from the Merced Adult School after forty years of educational service as an ESL, ABE and High School Diploma Lab Supervisor.  As a devout parishioner at St. Anthony's church and devoted his time to serving the community by volunteering as a Life Teen Core Member and becoming a Knight of Columbus.  As a veteran, he served at the Atwater VFW Post 9946 as the Chaplain and was awarded the rank of Junior Commander.
His most noticeable feature included his ultimate desire to win at anything he participated in due to his relentless compassion towards competiveness especially in sports.  He was a devoted New York Giants football fan his entire life. His greatest accomplishments included his undying passion towards motivating multitudes of students from all different types of backgrounds toward the path of educational excellence.  His sole contributions are still seen today in the faces of the students that have graduated from his program over the past forty years.  As a Patriotic Veteran he portrayed unconditional love towards fellow veterans, especially those from the Vietnam era.  His greatest joys included; playing sports of all types, card games, intellectual minded games, spending time with his family and his dear friends.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Anna Dimsey, father; Harold Dimsey, brother; Victor Dimsey, his 2 sons Jason (Marie), Michael (Esmeralda), five grandchildren Isabel, Teresa, Cecilia, Michael, and Cristiano, as well as countless relatives. He is preceded in death by his brother Raymond Dimsey, and his mother Dorothy Dimsey. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Rosary will be recited on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 AM also at the church. Burial will follow at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA. at 1:30 PM. Arrangements entrusted to Wilson Family Funeral Chapel of Atwater.

Ed and I worked as colleagues for around twenty-five years. The more I got to know Ed, the more I respected and loved him. He was a generous, dedicated and caring teacher, as well as a wonderful human being.
He will truly be remembered and missed by many.

I met you Anne, and Ed as my students 40+ years ago. We did not keep in touch as much as I would have liked but I always kept you both in my heart with very fond memories. After all, you even got married at my house!
Maura and I did keep tabs on Ed via other school officials and students over the years with all the positive comments of his exemplary work. We are saddened at Ed's passing. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
