Edward Macha Obituary

Our father started his life's journey on May 23, 1930 in Berwyn, IL. Later his family moved and settled in Cicero, IL. There he spent his early childhood with his family, His grandparents, Joseph and Anna Merek, his parents, Edward Macha Sr. and Anne Macha, and his little sister Shirley (Rodriguez), in a beautifully built home his grandfather and dad had built. dad often told the stories of taking the EL. to Wrigley Field, his love of White Castle hamburgers, and his grandmother actually lived across the street from Al Capone's mother.
Then on a family vacation to California one summer, his family quickly discovered that California was the place to be so they moved to Aptos CA. No more shoveling snow. He hated that!
Dad was a Senior in High School when they moved to California. Thank's to dads sister Shirley, who spotted my pretty mother sitting alone at one of my dads basketball games at Hartnell Junior college and later introduced the two of them, our mother Audrey (Hargraves) and our father would meet and get married.
Dad later received a basketball scholarship to UC DavisAg, Science. dad went on to become an "Ag. Engineer", for P. G. & E. He worked in Santa Cruz, Los Banos, Merced in 1964. During this span of time he became father to three children. Robert, Stephen, and Lynette. he went on to enjoy his growing family when Robert was married to Catherine. They have two children, Mellisa (Frazier), and Edward Macha the 3rd, our dads name sake. Then Stephen was married and has two children, Stephanie (Owens) and Jarrod Macha. Stephen went on to marry his current wife Jill and welcomed her daughter Brittney Macha into the group of grandchildren dad loved. They all reside in Merced. Lynette married Kenneth Pounds and have two children Rochelle (Strahm), and Kristin (Hild). They reside in Fresno. Dad then was blessed with nine precious great grandchildren. He retired from P G and E in 1987.
The things our father loved most was his wife Audrey, his family, and his faith. he lived his life serving Jehovah our God, with a happy heart. he was a stranger to no one. he will be missed by everyone who knew him. He lived to be 82 years old.
The Macha family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice and the staff of Emeritus for the care they gave to our dad.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2135 E. Olive Ave. Merced, CA.

Although I haven't seen Ed for many years, I have very fond memories of this kind and gentle man. A man of Faith, a wonderful teacher and speaker, always a big smile and a kind word. A big man, a gentle giant with a heart as big as his stature. An honor to have known you Ed. My condolences to Audrey and the rest of the Macha family.
