James Brown Obituary

James Debolder "JD" Brown passed away on February 14, 2026, at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. He was 80 years old. He was born December 22, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Richard and Mary Ellen Brown, and grew up in Kirksville, Missouri. After spending the first part of his life in Missouri, he moved to California and then lived the last 7 years of his life in Nevada.

JD was the beloved husband of Judy, his loving wife of 42 years, and devoted father to his children: Scott Brown of Springfield, Missouri; Lisa Jensen Brown of Everton, Missouri; Jason Brown of Bloomburg, Texas; Kathy Brown of Merced, California; and Michelle Stoker of Merced, California. JD had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved and cherished. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Vicki Wayman Brown, and niece, Shelly Brantner, of Kearney, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Cheri Denise Beatty; his brother, Richard (Dick) Brown; and his parents, Mary Ellen Brown and Richard O'Neal Brown.

JD was a proud member of the Teamsters and after retirement from Bode Gravel in San Francisco, he bought the Star Club in Merced where he made so many friends over the years. He never met a stranger and people loved him from the start. Those who knew JD will remember him for his kindness, humility, friendliness and humor - qualities that left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

JD had a love of nature and found joy in the mountains of Nevada and the wild horses that roam there. His mornings were spent feeding the hummingbirds and quail. His afternoons were often spent at the local casino where he also made many friends and maybe won a few bucks. He shared a special bond with his dogs who brought him endless companionship and happiness.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to your favorite animal welfare group.

J. D. and I worked together to bring the Wednesday Night Jam session to The Star Club for what turned out to be a great success. Musicians came from all around the Valley to hangout, play some Blues and enjoy the scene. JD kept an open mind about what went down but would have preferred a little more country. JD also brought in weekend acts to enhance the local music scene and people enjoyed themselves a lot. There was a family aspect between the owners and staff that just made you want to come down and hang out. Even today the legacy lives on. Thanks, JD, for all the good times. I'll catch ya on the flip side. All our Love to The Brown Family, May the many memories you hold of your precious JD help you through this difficult time.
All our Love, The Jeffrey Family
