Merced, California - Jay "Jay Bird" Wallace, age 65 of Merced, California passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022, with his family by his side. Jay was born in Riverside, California and was the fourth of eight sons born to Marjorie and Carroll Wallace.
In Jay's young years he played on a baseball team with all eight of his brothers and his dad as the coach. As he got older, he enjoyed working as a Pit Crew member for #16 Sportsman at Merced Speedway. He had two children Michael and Sarah and enjoyed camping and hiking with them when they were young.
Jay was known for his sense of humor and smart aleck personality. He was a jack-of-all-trades, there wasn't anything he couldn't figure out (including his daughter's college physics homework). Jay was a self-taught mechanic who could always be found working on cars whether it be for pay or hobby. He worked several jobs throughout his lifetime including Truck Driver, Mechanic, and Groundskeeper for Atwater Air Museum. In Jay's later years he worked part time as a word-of-mouth gardener.
Jay is survived by his daughter (Sarah Verver), brothers (Glen & Gene Wallace), daughter-in-law (Jamie Wallace) and two grandchildren (Madison & David Wallace).
He was preceded in death by his son (Michael Wallace), brothers (Guy, Jack, Gary & Grant Wallace) and parents (Marjorie & Carroll Wallace).
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 5435 Mercedes Avenue, Winton, CA 95388.
