Mike Parley of Merced, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the age of 89. He was born on July 31, 1927 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Josephine ParlaVecchio. Mike met the love of his life Ruth Naomi Fletcher in Johnstown, PA and was united in Marriage on January 12th 1946 in Cumberland, MD. To this union they had six children. They moved to California in 1954 and settled in Merced in 1960. Mike served his country as a Merchant Marine and in the Air Force.
Mr. Parley worked for P.T.& T., Bruce's TV and Red Carpet Realty. He and his wife Ruth together owned the Jolly Jiant Drive Inn and Mi Casa Cafe.
Mike has enriched our lives with his kindness, his wisdom and his love. He will truly be missed.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth N. Parley; his children: Victoria Hopkins, Michael Parley, Garnet Crain, Annette Sill and Patrick Parley; Six grandchildren: Stephen Hopkins, Darren Hopkins, Justin Smith, Randy Longnecker, Ron Crain and John Crain; a sister, Virginia Scales and Seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Richard Parley.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Avenue in Merced. Pastor Mike Hull will be officiating.
Services are under the direction of Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home in Merced.

My sweet Uncle is gone. All his siblings are now together in Heaven. We were raised knowing our family and had Uncle Mike not traveled that "road" to California in his Willy´s Jeep, 4 kids in tow, everything would be different. I know he was proud of his family and I´m glad we all grew up together. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th generations of Family have passed this way.
Uncle Mike was a strong and future driven man. I miss him and my Aunt Ruth very much. May they have everlasting peace, together.

Uncle Mike and Aunt Ruth and their family were a big part of my growing up years. There would be family dinners and BBQs and stories and laughter. There was a sense of togetherness and sharing. I will always think fondly of those times. And through the years, I enjoyed seeing his welcoming presence at family events.
Uncle Mike was a good person.
God has a special place for him in heaven.
Rest In Peace uncle.

I have many fond memories of family reunions with Uncle Mike and his family, my second and third cousins. Uncle Mike, like my grandpa and dad had such a big presence whenever he was around. I'm so grateful to have known him and cherish all those memories of our "get togethers". He will truly be missed.

Grandpa, you were such a wonderful man. As a child I spent much of my time with my grandparents. My mom was working hard to support our household so my brother and I stayed with our grandparents during the work week. I was basically raised by my grandparents as a young child. Until the age of thirteen I could be found at my grandparents house before and afterschool. Grandpa taught me so many life lessons that I truly believe made me the strong honest man I am today.
Grandpa never had anything bad to say about anyone. I honestly cannot think of one instance where I heard my Grandpa say something hateful about anyone. I truly believe he did not have a hateful bone in his body. He taught me to be reaponsible respectful and to work hard at anything that I attempted.
Grandpa valued education and always supported me in any ventures I persued. He took me to my sporting events, paid for music lessons and so much more. He also helped pay for some of my college and was so proud of all of his grandchildrn's scholastic achievements.
Mike Parley was so much more than a grandpa to me. He was a mentor, a motivator and a friend. On December 20, 2016 my first child will be born. I was so happy when I thought grandpa would get to meet my daughter but, unfortunately he did not live to meet her. Knowing that my new daughter will have a special guardian angel does provide some solace. In life grandpa watched over me and in death I know he will watch over my baby girl Natalie. Thank you so much grandpa for everything. I love you so much and know I will see you again some day.

My Dear Uncle Mike has left us. I am sad he is gone. So Many years of JOY, getting together at his home for holidays and just visiting and sharing and hanging out. I will miss this sweet Guy.
