Adrienne Perry Obituary

Adrienne Carole Edwards Perry
February 16, 1946 - November 11, 2012
Resident of Mountain View
Adrienne Perry, 66, of Mountain View, California, died at home following an extended battle with cancer.
Born in St. Austell, Cornwall, England, she was the daughter of the late Derek Lawler Piercy Edwards and Esmee Doreen Courtenay Edwards, and the sister of the late Nigel Treloar Edwards and of Veryan Courtenay Edwards Cockburn.
Her family resided in Hong Kong for sixteen years with intermittent trips to England, finally settling in Africa in the mid 1960s. From there Adrienne went back to England to study opthamology at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. After she completed her studies to become an opthalmist, she traveled to Savannah, Georgia to work for a short period of time, and there met her late husband, Edmund Conant Perry. After a whirlwind courtship of 4 months, they married in early 1969 and proceeded to move to Storrs Connecticut, where Adrienne worked for a time at the Hartford Hospital.
They moved with their daughter to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1974, where Adrienne worked at the Stanford Hospital for four years. After that she found very happy employment at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation for over 30 years in the eye department, until she retired. She always found her work with both patients and with other PAMF staff to be extremely rewarding.
She also enjoyed and was an expert gardener, spent much of her time writing, had a keen interest in zoology, and was an ardent Star Trek fan. She greatly relished her various excursions to Africa where she would go on safaris with her sister, and at home she enjoyed going on smaller trips with her husband to various places throughout California to observe wildlife. Her entire life was one of vibrancy, courage, and vivacity, and she lived every moment to the fullest.
By her request there is to be no memorial service.
She is survived by her sister, Veryan Courtenay Edwards Cockburn of Gaborone, Botswana, Africa, one daughter, Tanya Veryan Perry Achermann of Mountain View, one granddaughter, Cassandra Courtenay Achermann of Mountain View, and a grandson, Tristram Conant Achermann of Mountain View.
Memorial contributions may be made to the World Wildlife Federation.

Your vibrant mother will be missed. I fondly remember the detailed palm reading she did for me years ago. So sweet of her to take the time! May the memories of time together with your parents be of some comfort, Jocelyn del Carmen

Tanya I'm sorry for your loss. It's great to know that your mom decided to be an adopted mom for me right after the loss of my grandmother. It's great to know that I got the chance to be friends with your mom and even better knowing I got to have her as an adopted mom even if the time was short. Course I still think of you as my adopted sister. And I like to think that your mom and dad are up there in heaven talking with my grandmother and grandfather. And just sitting there talking about us. Hugs to you and your family.

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
2
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
3
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

You were one of the kindest people I've ever met, filled with joy, humor and sage wisdom. May your peace be everlasting. God Bless you.
